Pup - Good Thread, Good Post

My thoughts, in general, it's too early to make any win / loss call, we need to wait and see which players take their opportunity at their new clubs, we also need to wait and see who the clubs select with their additional draft selections and how these players develop.

without providing a win / loss verdic, some of my initial thoughts are.

Crows
I don't believe that the 2 players that the Crows lost would of necessarily been in the Crows best 22, definitely 1 in Huddo, however based on Marty's 2007 form, he was no certainty to make our best 22.

Gains, being a Doggies man, I may be bias, however I do rate Symes, Port have stated that they viewed Symes as a HB type only, speaking to a few people at the CDFC this week while I was in Adelaide, the feed back was, they believed Symes had the Capability to play a similar role to Kane Cornes or a Cameron Ling. This view has certainly be supported by Alan Steward who recruited Symes to Port, Craigy has backed Alan in with his judgement, so don't be surprised if you eventually see Symes move to a defensive midfield role

Moran, obviously not a house hold name just yet, however, we will know more about the kid come this time next year, Dutchy comments on the lad were promising, so I am looking forward to seeing how the lad develops

This years draft will be extremely critical to the crows

Lions
Par result, Johnstone and Hadley are a one for one swap, the club only chased Travis because they lost Richard Hadley, a player the club rates very high

Wood, a risk worth taking given the clubs ruck stock..

Kanga's
Not sure I agree with Power being a bargin... I suspect this lad is cashing in on his brothers performance, Power's performance for the dogs at times has been soft and inconsistent, however, like all the other traded players, he has an opportunity to kick start his career, the jury is still out

Davies, this lad is a ball magnet, however, the Pies had concerns withhis ball use, modern day footy is all about minimising the clanger count, the lad will need to improve in this area

In regards to the other clubs, I tend to agree Pup's excellent post

I think you have to wait for the draft before coming to final conclusions

For most clubs, the definition of a trade means its mostly like for like so its not common for someone to come out obviously on top

We also had a couple of clubs with salary cap problems so what they see as a win may not look like it to the supporters

He's old, but he kicked over 100 goals in a season, and the crows forward line is the worst in the comp.

Umm maybe because he isn't on an AFL list (you can only trade players actually on a list), the draft is still four weeks away.....

Firstly the Cows have stated today that they won't pick up Chambers.

Secondly I.F. BULLDOGS, you said "He's old". Steady on  The bloke's 27. FFS old?? OK a more mature footballer but easy with the "old" word please

These days clubs are more interested in 17 year olds which can run fast, run long distances and jump. They should be picking up Chambers he's going to be around for only a few years, but those years could be good for the younger players.

Chambers size means he would not be a key-position forward at AFL level and I'm not sure he has the leg speed of the Didaks, Daveys, etc. Crows have a similar style player in Scott Welsh I don't think another of that type will solve our forward line problems

Playing on an AFL defender is a huge step up don't underestimate how huge

As for taking up a spot on a 40 man list just to help the juniors well, to me, that's what we have coaches for.

The crows juniors are struggling to get a game under Neil Craig, and the crows need more juniors as Goodwin, McLeod, and the more experienced players won't last more than 4 more seasons.

I am glad the club will not draft Chambers, the Richardson experiment did not work

My understanding was that draft picks that were traded to a club MUST be used. This is relevant with the draft picks that were traded to Geelong for King ect. This came to light at the end of last season whe Hawthorn did not want the Swans to throw in a 5th round draft pick with the Spida Everitt trade as they wanted to keep list space for the PSD.
Has this rule changed????

I think they may be picking up a father/son recruit through their pick 90..

I.F. BULLDOGS

some of the issues have been the availability of some of the juniors, Tippett and McKay were injured for the majority of the year.

Maric, Meesen, Campbell and Pfieffer all suffered long term injuries in pre-season or early in the year, while Hinge got injured in his first game, this in itself impacted on the club's flexibility to play some of these players at the right time

However, Van Berlo, Knights, Proplyzia and Griffen all seen plenty of game time, Douglas played 13 games last year (I would of liked to have seen more), and Maric played 6 games once fit.

Next year, Van Berlo, Knights, Proplyzia, Griffen, Maric and Douglas will all be right to go, Symes, Gallman, Moran and hopefully our pick #10 will get their opportunities, I would expect Tippett may get an opportunity up forward..... I also hope by the end of 2008 Sellar will be pushing for selection

The flip side to this, I would expect players such as Biglands, Welsh, Massie and Doughty will not be in the clubs first choice 22, the club needs to create scope to allow the players to develop, this can only be done at the selection table
