On paper it looks as though St Kilda have done pretty well:

Schneider, Dempster, King and Gardiner for picks 26 + 90.

As much as I couldn’t stand Schneider at the swans, I think he will be a handy addition and the sort of player we need. Likewise with King.

Dempster will be a fringe player at best. Don’t have huge hopes for Gardiner.

But overall pretty happy with how it’s all gone :)

I've had a bit of a think about this. Geelong are going to secure Adam Donahue (Father/Son) and have moved on four players to promote some players from the VFL team as well as ease salary cap pressure.

I heard Pick 90 will be used for the father son pick as no one else bidded on Donahue.
So it didn't matter which pick was received for King.

if the Saints can keep King fit, than they might have a pretty good ruck set up

however, history shows it will be a huge challenge keeping both King and Gardiner on the park

on the onther selections

Dempster, Fringe player at the swans
Schnieder, needs to take his game to another level

Doesn't a father/son need to be a round three pick ??

Nah its not Third Round anymore, As Constance said it is now down to bidding, so they could possibly have to pick a father son in the first round if he is highly rated by the other clubs.

It's not "Here's two players, they are worth XX, so give us that". It's just the system.

Exactly right. Geelong did the right thing by the players in assuring their short term future without them having to go through the PSD process, where they're not guaranteed a job next year.

The only question I have to ask is do Geelong now have to use all of their picks up to and including 90 as it was part of a trade or are they still allowed to pass if they want?

King must have been on the way out anyway for salary cap or other reasons is the only explanation I can think of there

Yeah I was shocked at that. King or charile Gardener would be better than pick 90 on thier own in my opinion. But hey each to there own

Father/Son works on a bidding system now, eg the Roos put a bid in for young Daniher being their 3rd round pick, therefore for Essendon to get him under Father/Son they had to commit their 3rd Round pick...if no one put in a bid they can take him with their last draft pick....I think Geelong have one so they will use 90 for it

Not that happy with losing King. We get his body right and then give him away from nothing. Good pick up by the Saints who have been very active during the trading period.

Maybe 66 will have to jump back on.

Nah Punky, he knew his days at Catland were numbered. He wanted to go to the Saints if he couldn't stay a Cat and the club facilitated this by accepting pick ninety. I think being a former club captain, an All Australian and a premiership player should do the trick in the self esteem department for Kingy wouldn't you think?
