Looking at 2008

Postby stan » Mon Oct 01, 2007 11:25 am

I know a fair bit could depend on what happens in draft week. But lets look forward to 08. For me at this stage the Cats will be up there again, good list all a the right at to go for a few more years. Collingwood, Hawthorne, Port, West Coast will be other major challengers with the next tear coming from the Roos, Brisbane, Fremantle and the Western Bulldogs.

To summaries:

Geelong
WCE
Collingwood
Hawthorne
Port
Brisbane
WB
Freo

Of cousre at this stage its difficult to tell, so please post you opinions here.

every one has written of the crows already. but they have missed the finals 3 times since 1997 i think. 99,00,04. so you think they will make it again. and if they can keep Mcgregor have Hentschel fit and Nick gill up forward with welsh and douglas and maybe brett burton in a forward pocket, that is a pretty good forward line. and you never know collingwood may have to trade didak to get judd. and dids wont go west!!!!!

All that faith in the Crows, joker? And you're trying your best to write off the dogs over on the SANFL board?

Well McGregor wont be there
Hentschel - will be like Nathan Brown - 12-18 months playing before getting half close to what he used to be
Welsh - after his current actions one would think he could be gone (cant have Welsh and Didak at the same club could they?)
Nick Gill - sorry, the bloke just can't kick, would only be good value outside the 50.

I really think the crows will struggle this year unless they do some good trades and draft choices.

Neil Craig - first coach to go in 2008?

I'd rather make a GF and lose by 20 goals, than scrape into the 8. The crows premiership window just closed. Whereas Port's is just opening.

Saying that I think Port will finished 4th. Behind Geelong, WCE and Collingwood.

Don't get too excited about your 'window' just yet. Chad Cornes, Brogan, P Burgoyne, Tredrea, Lade, Wilson are all aged 29 or over next season. Wakelin already gone.

They, plus S Burgoyne and K Cornes, were instrumental in the success this season. The last 2 guys are OK age wise at around 26.

Port need to capitalise in the next 2 seasons IMO before those guys retire - they are the heart and soul of the team.
In between signatures .....

After this years performance Geelong have a window to rival that of Brisbanes I think. But it is October 2007... very hard to gauge what is going to happen next year.

The one constant... channel 7 sucks.

Geez when I started this topic I was actually more interested in where teams will be, not a crows v port slanging match.

I feel the crows will be around 8 - 12. Sort of in that area. They will have 2 key position players in Hentschel and Biglands. At this stage I cant see then challenging for the top 8. Things could be different after trade week depends on what happens.

What do people think about the Hawks chances. Good team, plenty of talent there, more experiance so they should be up there next year.

One team I think will be alright will be the WB, at the moment there a bit small, but if they grab some height from trade week they might well fit into the 8.

Westsider

your kidding yourself if you believe Craigy will get the sack in 2008

it is almost impssible to predict 2008 at this stage

lets look at Collingwood, we have almost every reason to write collingwood off, no quality ruckman, slow through the midfield and a very thin defence, however they made the top 4...

while Freo, after trade week last year, the entire footy world were picking freo as a walk up start to the GF

not to mention ther Kanga's, put your hand up if you picked them for the wooden spoon, so all the logic in the world can count for zero

on the Crows, once again, I expect people will find all the reasons in the world to write them off, people are aleady making these calls and we don't even have finalised lists for next year

Yes, the AFC have plenty to do in the pre-season, but so do 15 other clubs
