A bizzare occurance today
Forward Nathan ABLETT pulled a hammy in the warm up right on play time
ABLETT was unable to play.
Reports say it was seconds or about 5 minutes before the game.
Geelong were playing an undermanned Melbourne and also became
undermanned leading into the game.
ABLETTwas replaced by SELWOOD in the line up
There was one small problem :

SELWOOD JOINED HIS TEAM-MATES HALF WAY THROUGH THE FIRST QUARTER !!!!!!!!!

Yep there was no standby player available on game time
They played one short for half a quarter
#-o [-X :butthead:

Hope they are better prepared in this years Grand Final.

Interesting point mal which has ramifcations on the SANFL IMHO.
Would you want 4 players pulled out of the SANFL each week just in case a Crows or Power player does something in the warm up?
(Mind you its not as silly as it sounds as we had Damon White missing a few times in recent years just not to play anywhere eventually)

No WEDGIE you would not want an emergency to not play a game at all.
Logic should apply just have a standby player READY in case of a player
pulling out of the line up.
To have nobody ready for 15 odd minutes is a bit SLACK [might be a genuine reason however]

But what if their VFL team is playing the day before like the Power or Crowd might cop with their SANFL players?
The only answers I can see are:
1) have a player on standby who misses out on a game completely or
2) have a player on standby who played a full game the day before

Ivan Maric backed up on a Sunday after playing for the Magpies on a Saturday last season. Wasn't orginally named in the squad to play all week so the Crows also payed a fine also I think
