That is why we are 12th and Port are 3rd

On the subject of hits-and-misses in drafts I, have a look at the 2000 top 20 draft picks - the year that the Saints had the first 2 draft picks (and 7 years later still haven't capitalised on it )

National Draft
Round Pick Player Recruited from Club
Priority 1 Nick Riewoldt Murray Bushrangers St Kilda
1 2 Justin Koschitzke Southport Sharks St Kilda
1 3 Alan Didak Port Adelaide Magpies Collingwood
1 4 Luke Livingston Bendigo Pioneers Carlton
1 5 Andrew McDougall Perth Football Club West Coast
1 6 Dylan Smith Sandringham Dragons Kangaroos
1 7 Laurence Angwin Dandenong Stingrays Adelaide
1 8 Daniel Motlop North Adelaide Roosters Kangaroos
1 9 Kayne Pettifer Murray Bushrangers Richmond
1 10 Jordan McMahon Glenelg Western Bulldogs
1 11 Trent Sporn North Adelaide Roosters Carlton
1 12 Shaun Burgoyne Port Adelaide Magpies Port Adelaide
1 13 Ashley McGrath South Fremantle Football Club Brisbane Lions
1 14 Daniel Harris Bendigo Bombers Kangaroos
1 15 Simon Wiggins Tasmania Devils Football Club Carlton
1 16 Scott Thompson Port Adelaide Magpies Melbourne
1 17 James Davies Xavier College Essendon
2 18 Daniel Kerr East Fremantle Football Club West Coast Eagles
2 (F/S) 19 Jason Cloke Eastern U18 Collingwood
2 20 Kane Cornes Glenelg Football Club Port Adelaide

How well did Port do in securing 2 future premiership players and All-Australians and Daniel Kerr got passed over by every club once.

Laurence Angwin

The Kangaroos must have done some trading to have 3 first round picks?

Anyway, just for interests sake .....
In between signatures .....

The Saints got it right. Riewoldt is a star and who could have predicted the litany of misfortune to befall Koschitzke? Key position players is what it's all about in the top 5 - a big cheerio to Richmond recruiters.

Case in point - Daniel Kerr. The Eagles picked Andrew McDougall first. Nobody's slagging them.

Pick64 v Pick71?

1 nil Pick64s way at the moment despite Pick64 playing in the underdog team.

I am not going to compare both players, I think that is unfair

but what I will say, I am happy with the way Gill is attacking his footy and if he can work hard on his disposal their is no reason why he can't play 100 games for the AFC

Westoff, great start to his career, but let's not get too carry away, he will start to draw more attention, but the biggest concern is his light frame, if he is unable to gain considerable size, he may struggle to sustain performances at this level, still a long road for the kid

Why can't he kick at 24 years of age?

If you can't kick, you can't play.

But you do have to get it first even if you are a great kick!
