REB's Rubbish Round 16

Postby Dutchy » Fri Jul 20, 2007 1:10 pm

The tradition continues...heres Dutchy's Dump

alright onto Round 16 -

Geelong - Simple Bullies have played last 2 games on the Telstra DOOM, Geelong win
Collingwood - See above although Essendon played last 3 on the DOOM...and look at the injury list...interestingly though Collingwood havent won or lost by more than 33 points all year, maybe this could be the one
Adelaide - Crows have 8 days rest v Freo 6 days rest, some big outs for both sides, this will be a low scoring slog, although interesting to look at the Crows stats coming off a loss for the year, after 4 of their losses this year they have handed out 38, 31, 46 & 71 point floggings, with the 2 times they didnt win after a loss to Geelong and Collingwood...this could actually get ugly for Freo if they arent switched on
Saints - Have 8 days break v Hawks a 6 day break and while Hawks have had good wins recently against Richmond and Carlton they have struggled against Collingwood, Sydney and the Crows, Saints seem to be on the rise and this is a statement game for them...going to go with them but could easily be wrong here
West Coast - Look at the In's and they have the motivation, Eagles maybe comfortably
Brisbane - enough said, although Carlton are due to suprise as they do occasionally
Port - Expect this one to be a real tough one for Port but class should just get them across the line although I expect Richmond will give them a real fright and this one could easily be the upset of the round, however Im taking the safe option in the tipping..Port have won 2 close ones at the G this year and Richmonds record at the G has been OK without winning (they havent been smashed apart from the Hawks games)
Kangas - Due to let one slip but jsut dont look like doing it, both teams coming off interstate trips, could be last man standing in last 1/4

good luck all

Pretty hard to argue with that logic Mr Holland

s

This week is the first of the 'after the turn' games and it can be quite tempting to select sides that might have been defeated by the team they are playing this week, certainly a few games have that look about them this week. However, a lot of the time those results are actually repeated.....

Geelong will be keen to make amends for what was one of our poorer efforts of the season when they got pantsed by the Bullies. With Cross and Griffen out and maybe West short of a gallop, the Pussies appear to have the Bullies covered in this match. Brad Johnson will again cause Geelong match up problems but the back half of the Dogs will have their hands full with the Big Hairy Cat to finally start kicking straight. Geelong by 25 points.

Collingwood will go one step closer to ending the Bombers' season this week after rebounding from the Catter loss to win against their arch rival. The Pies have wisely left out Bryan which gives them an option for when Rocca isn't firing up forward in the ruck and Medhurst has paid the price for his AWOL effort last week. The Pies get a couple of experienced defenders back but so do the Dons in the form of Inspector Gadget. I reckon this one will be a close match but the Pies will edge the Dons by eight points.

Adelaide will ensure that the Mark Harvey sets sail on rocky seas in what is a forbidding port of call for the Dockers. Normally a team that has a new coach becomes rejuvenated but I don't trust this mob on the road, especially without their beanpole ruckman Lurch Sandilands. The Cows go in without Rutten and the Roo and even worse, Perrie is back but at the Park I can't go past the Blackbirds in another enthralling Adelaide victory. Adelaide by 11 points.

Hawthorn will defy Dutchy's prediction and make light work of the laughable St Kilda 'revival' that has apparently been happening lately. The Hawks are too hard at the ball for the Saints and will be better in midfield and will have a fowardline that will match the output of the Sainter counterpart. I have a feeling that this game will open up as a reaction to their last match and when it comes to effective use of uncontested football, Hawthorn leave St Kilda for dead. Hawks by 33 points.

West Coast look good on paper but on the field lately they've looked bloody 5hithouse. However, with this weeks ins, the Eagles at least are starting to resemble the outfit that has dominated the league in recent years. Sydney are apparently flying but soft wins over Freo and Carlton are not the stuff of Swannie legend. Hall will find things much tougher and Sydney will revert to lockdown in order to restrict the West Coast. In another close match, I see the Eagles emerging the victors by 10 points.

Brisbane will pound Carlton. The Blues are a young side minus their best midfielder, their rucks are led by a stop gap measure at his third club and are asking a hell of a lot from veteran Anthony Koutafedies to stand Jonathon Brown who is suddenly looking like the menacing behemoth of past years. The Lions will win the centre with ease and it will be the Lions turn to rack up a huge score at the Blues expense. Brisbane by 44 points.

Port will begin their armchair ride into the top eight against a Richmond side that will take it up to the Power for a while before paying the inevitable price of kicking the ball to the opposition repeatedly. Port will hit the front early and and roll over the top of the Tigers who will try but eventually fail to make any impression on the match. Port by 38 points.

Kangaroos will record their second victory against a hapless Demons outfit who manage to take one step foward two steps back as Neitz return but they lose Davey to frustration...er..I mean suspension. The Roos have earnt the respect back of the footy world that seems to be such a motivating factor this season but they will soon lose that respect if they were to drop a game against this rabble. Melbourne are dead set ordinary and the Roos will win by 32 points here.

regards,

The REAL comptroller

Collingwood
Fremantle (new coach factor)
West Coast

Scarlett's out for the Cats tonight, wouldn't suprised me if they drop one sooner rather than later and the Dogs are one of their thorns in the past.
