REB's Rubbish the 13th

Postby Rik E Boy » Thu Jun 28, 2007 11:00 pm

Horrorshow! Can't pick a winner but at least I wasn't on my Pat Malone last week and at least I didn't lose 2 grand betting on Danihurt to depart on a technicality when I was right like some unfortunate punter in Melbourne this week. This round looks like another head scratcher with more players returning from and missing through injury and another major milestone, this time the 'shinboner of the century' Glen Archer who plays his 300th for the Gold Coast this week.

Melbourne will continue their good run against Essendon this week (they've won the last three against the Dons) and for me there are two reasons why. The much loved Rev's mighty heart was broken after a truly weak effort against the normally tepid Tigers. Expect the leadership group of this team to hit back hard for the Rev this week with Neitz and Johnstone to return. White is another who is due for a big one and his cause will be helped no end by the absence of Hille in the ruck. Many think that no Lloyd equals no Bombers but to me David Hille is the key. Melbourne to make Danihurt even more with a sprited goodbye and a 21 point victory.

Geelong will be the last team standing in what I believe will be one hell of a tough match. It will be wet and windy, just like mudrunner James Bartel likes it but the Swannies will be hell bent on proving that the party is not over for the 2005 premiers. For Geelong Max 'Jarrad isn't a tough enough first name' Rooke is back for Tenance who wouldn't have relished the slop at Sleepy Hollow and the Swans will be going in without BBB Barry Hall and Scnieder who have succumbed to injury. The Swans will throw everything at the Catters but Geelong at Geelong when it is wet and 13 degrees is no place to find form. The next two fixtures appeal more for the Swannies and Geelong will win this game by 9 points.

Fremantle have to defeat Carlton if they are fair dinkum in their home match this Saturday. Jeff Farmer returns for the Dockers but punchy Tarrant will be in the bar after that incredibly tough one match suspension that was handed out by this highly disciplined organisation LOL. Eddie Betts returns for Carlton but Eddie is no Farmer and right now Carlton are no Fremantle. Carlton will keep it open and flowing and stay with the Dockers for a while but I get the feeling that Sandilands will dominate and Pavlich will kick an absolute bag. Fremantle by 33 points.

Port turned things around in a big hurry with a great win against the Bombers and should go on with it against Brisbane at the Gabba. Defeating the Lions at the moment is no mystery, get on top of Black and Brown and the rest flounder. Brisbane are playing dumb football by looking to Brown at the exclusion of almost every other option but Port will double team the big fellow and run the ball in waves into attack. Port are very hard to stop when they get in front with a head of steam up and I can see Port being allowed to play their destructive game against one of the most suspect teams in the AFL at the present. Port by 43 points.

St Kilda can continue its good record against the Tigers even though the Tigers are starting to look a lot more settled with Brown back and now Simmonds returning to the line up to give Pattison some much needed assistance in the ruck. I believe the Saints still have more match winners than Richmond and that they can carry on last week's good form for at least another week. St Kilda have the slightest sniff of the finals and with the added motivation against a side who might suffer a let down after last week's drought breaker, all signs point to a Sainter success. St Kilda by 22 points.

West Coast can continue its recent dominance over Adelaide despite playing at AAMI Stadium and despite the absence of Chris Judd. I was all go for the Blackbirds earlier in the week but Goodwin is out, Bock and Edwards aren't fully fit and the Eagles have Fletcher and Embley back and I promise syd-dog I won't say anything about the Crows' ruck depth...eek..too late! Let's just say Cox will have a big one.....Eagles by 10 points.

Kangaroos just wouldn't dare put in Roo Poo for Archs' 300th would they? No. I don't think so. Both sides usually put on a pretty good game and have done so over the years but the Bullies look to be a little under strength at the moment and the Roos were carp last week against the Blackbirds so I expect them to rebound strongly for Archer. Kangaroos by 17 points.

Hawthorn will be nice and rested when they take on Collingwood in one of those bloody horrible twighlight fixtures the AFL is so keen to force on us. The Pies at last have a few players to return which makes this game bloody tougher to pick than Micheal Jackson's nose. Everyone seems to be on the Hawks but for me this is a real toss of the coin job. I reckon the loss of Rocca will really hurt the Pies here and it is this factor which has decided it for me. Hawkers by 26 points.

regards,

REB

ps - Eight winners! in three weeks.

Mine are:

Essendon
Geelong
Fremantle
Brisbane
St Kilda
Adelaide
Bulldogs
Hawthorn

Couple of tough games including tonight - I picked Essendon early in the week before knowing about Daniher but I'll stick with my first instinct.

Yes I do mate.Carlton as we all know play a very attacking brand of football, and I believe Fremantle are one of the worst teams in the comp when trying to stop a team 'rebounding' out of thier forward line. This I think is the reason Farmer has been returned to the side to help keep the ball in the forward line.

Whitnall and Walker are losses, but I think Waite can cover Pavlich on the ground and in the air.Should be a good contest this one,the winner will need to kick 15+ goals to win.

Can Fremantle do it with out Tazz and with Pavlich covered?

2 different this week Mr REB

Essendon - This will be a shoot out I believe as Daniher lets the boys loose to play attacking footy and Essendon only know that way also. Bombers are 4-1 at the Doom this year and play the ground as good as anyone, Melbourne are 0-1 at the Doom this year and even last year in a good year for them they went 1-3 at the Doom, in 2005 they went 2-2....they simply dont play enough games there to get comfortable with the hardness of the ground. Melbourne despite their recent run of form have conceded 55+ Inside 50's in their last 6 games, this is something the Bombers thrive on and will only need 55 Inside 50's with their forward line to kick a winning score. Melbourne averaging under 80 points in their last 5 games, Essendon also coming off the longer break will be cherry ripe, Daniher leaving will make some difference but not enough to tip them.
Freo
Geelong
Port - Brisbane need some forward line restructuring as they have averaged 66 points in their last 6 games, Im sure the coaching staff would have used the 2 week break to work on this but unless they come up with something out of left field I cant see them scoring over 80 points here, they have conceded 100 pioint sin the same 6 games so if Port are on song they should be able to win this well, Port have played the ground well in the past also.
Saints - Reckon they may string a few together now
Kangas - Have to go with them for Arch however this one worries me, looking at the stats though and Bullies defence and midfield has been leaking Inside 50's to the opposition all year and with the tough Roos midfield I think they might be able to put them under enough pressue to win, Wells who always plays well fresh is a handy addition also
Hawks - Hawks have had a 16 day break coming into this one and Collingwood due for a let down after the massive build up to last week...take out Rocca helps the cause also, hawks will be looking for a scalp here and good determine a top 4 spot this game
Crows - Just think they will get over a tired WCE, who have gone through some extra training in the break and might be leg weary, saw some stats teh other day of WCE without Judd and they struggle, lost 4 of the last 6 they aint going to be able to get some momentum in this game, Crows and maybe quite easily...

the rules of the market were that the coach was no longer part of the club at the start of Round 22 in any capacity

I just posted a quote from Alistair Clarkson on the Neale Daniher thread and FWIW it looks more and more like a sacking - certainly was a sacking from Clarkson's POV
