If I had young kids now I'd consider moving somewhere where you couldn't get television! It promotes and glorifies violence, deviousness, tartiness, and poor self-discipline. As soon as there is no more AFL on free-to-air I may dump our sets.

Oh, hadn't seen that - can you get access to that without the other rubbish, and without paying for the other rubbish?

You get a selection of packages that you can then use to put together the channels that you like, what you can do advise Foxtel of what channels you would like to be made available as pin number access only, that way you leave only the channels you think are appropriate for kids to watch without the pin.

One thing I would love Foxtel to do would be have packages of 10, 20, 30, 40 channels at differing prices and you purchase a package and can add whatever channels from their portfolio...but until there is competition this wont happen

at the end of the day FOX are only covering the footy games that FTA never used to cover anyway

Which is why Geelong fans MUST get Fox.

Hence you are captive to Rupert.

I bought a copy of the Herald Sun about 8 years ago - never again. And I will never pay to to be held captive in front of a TV screen.

 I'm having a heavy month if booze costs me $60 that month and I gave up ciggies at age 11.
I once went to a 6 course dinner that included 2 top quality wines with each course - 12 small glasses in all - for $200 for two people.
[Yes, there were two Chardonnays in the 12!]

If one adds weekend drinking and gambling, no wonder the poor are poor and the welfare bill is high! I saw a recent article in The Age picking up medical research about high levels of dangerous binge drinking in Australia.

Remember, any time you have more than 4 standard drinks in any 24 hour period you do knock off [permanently] several thousand brain cells - and no you can't get away more more than 4 at weekends if you don't drink during the week!

I spoke to a FOXTEL installer the other day and he has been told by his employer that when this current contract expires (5 years?)they will pay whatever it takes to get sole AFL rights. Then we will all have to get Foxtel to watch the footy or spend our whole weekend at the Pub.

Pity there are laws to prevent that happening i.e AFL is on the list of protected sports that must be available free to air
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes that's right, at the moment ..............

Don't mean to rumour-monger tho - I'd be surprised if the Govt lets that one go in the future but who knows?

We need some FoxTel help because the free-to-air networks don't have enough air time to cater for all the sports they buy rights for on top of their normal programming. We inevitably end up with conflicts ie, FNF starting at 8.30 so they can show Better Homes & Gardens first, V8s v Sunday Football, etc, etc
In between signatures .....

This would be what I would like as well. At the moment there are 1 or 2 decent channels from each package, meaning if you want all of them you need to buy all the packages! They even move some popular weekly shows (such as Love My Way) to the movie channel to get people to sign up for that. It's not fair - but they can and do do what they like.

Another thing that might help would be the addition of a fourth commercial public tv network, we have had the three major ones now since the 70'2, considering we are now 21 million population there is no reason why a fourth network wouldent do well.

Other than sports, most and I repeat most material thrashed out on the TV is rubbish, therefore I refuse to pay out any of my hard earned for another 20 or more channels of tripe.

It may well be the aim of the Telstra/Foxtel conglomerate. Telstra clearly want to create a situation where if you want broadband you have to get it from BigPond, and that's why they are running an advertising campaign saying the government is holding up broadband development.

If they can get both monopolies established they think they can set whatever price they want and bleed everyone dry. They are hoping one of the major parties will crack and give them total control.
