1/ 250 combinations, 25% chance of receiving the #1 pick
2/ 199 combinations, 19.9% chance
3/ 156 combinations, 15.6% chance
4/ 119 combinations, 11.9% chance
5/ 88 combinations, 8.8% chance
6/ 63 combinations, 6.3% chance
7/ 43 combinations, 4.3% chance
8/ 28 combinations, 2.8% chance
9/ 17 combinations, 1.7% chance
10/ 11 combinations, 1.1% chance
11/ 8 combinations, 0.8% chance
12/ 7 combinations, 0.7% chance
13/ 6 combinations, 0.6% chance
14/ 5 combinations, 0.5% chance

OK, so if you finish dead last but miss out in the lottery, you receive the #2 pick in the draft?

When the first three teams have been determined, the remaining picks are given out based on regular season record with the worst teams getting the highest picks. This assures each team that it can drop no more than 3 spots from its projected draft position.

A couple of years ago the 14 worst team go the No. 1 draft pick with its 0.5% chance!!!

Maybe you can choose not to win at all costs and, instead, trial new players, tactics and positions. Is choosing not to be fussed about losing the same as 'tanking'. If Essendon did anything it's probably the former - Thomas has been given the 'stir the pot with strong language and statements' column I think.

Good call, I was wondering about that myself ... However it would probably depend on how much of a punt Judd was willing to take on finals appearances.

but they still went meaning that something other than lure of finals was at work - apparently johnson had wanted to leave the year but stayed because a suitable deal (with regards to adelaide) hadn't been arranged.
stevens - well don't know enough about the case but it seems like he just wanted out; preferably to collingwood, but failing that anywhere in Victoria.

Richmond would want to present a much more stable on and off-field image for the last 16 rounds before they are a chance to attract Judd away from a premiership team.

Just realised I said "off-field image" was important .... and he plays at West Coast.

On the subject of interestate players wanting to go home - I heard Van Berlo on the radio the other week and he gave the impression he was happy to play a career at the Crows. I guess he wouldn't say anything else tho. You never know what reasons drive a player to want to return home .... for example I recall Scott Welsh had a family bereavement (brother I think) which lead to him coming home.

its an interesting subject but in most cases these players are very very very soft in wanting to come home cause they are home sick...

A normal person may have to move interstate for much more than 10 years of their career and get paid much less and maybe not do something they love doing....give me the opportunity to be drafted and be earning $100k min playing footy in my early 20's knowing that I can return home once my career wis finished and Id go anywhere...they really do not understand how lucky they are...

Lets look at a couple that have returned home...Hedland, Johnson, Stenglien, Bell....all played better footy at their first clubs IMO...thoughts?

I agree the reasons seem fairly soft in a lot of cases given the money they are earning .... but sometimes too the home-base clubs make a big push to get them so some figure if they can earn the same $ AND go home it's not a bad deal. I wonder if Nick Stevens deep down is happy with his decision now he has missed a premiership.
