Talk on the national game

Not sure anyone actually knows MT.

Would be interesting to know some realy facts instead of statements that have been passed on as fact on internet forums though.

Anyone?

Surely after 11 years you know the answer by now? Its really not that hard.

If you still have no clue, go to both the Power and magpies websites and read the history sections.

in my opinion it is intentionally ambiguous...

1) when the power want to attract new people from outside the magpies fan base, they emphasise its a new club

2) when they want to draw on the strength of the magpies to develop success, they emphasise the magpies tradition

anyway, back to the topic at hand: clash/away guernseys

well done carlton on the new clash strip, and to any club that is brave enough to wear an alternate strip

have some balls essendon and collingwood.... and don't preach about not selling out, to paraphrase the words of maynard james keenan: "all we know about you is what you've sold us"

somewhere a number of posts ago the comment was made "if it aint broke, don't fix it"... well, it is broke, for years it has been very difficult to differentiate some guernseys, either live at the game or especially on tv. and the tv $$$ props up your vfl brothers so get with the program!

The irony of Collingwood is that they have already changed their guernsey in recent years AND aren't so precious about the B&W when it comes to the colour of sponsors logos on their guernsey.

I don't agree with Essendon's position either but at least they can say their guernsey has remained intact for much longer.

They both need to get over themselves.

Bisbane v Adelaide IN Brisbane.
Brisbane are wearing their AWAY all white strip.
WHY?!?!.
Doesn't Adelaide have a viable road uniform?
If so, why not? Are they as pompous and arrogant as Collingwood & Essendon?
WTF is going on? :-k

It's a great jumper - with a black back it could even do as a home one. But, as it is, it is much better than the current official away jumper IMO.

Adelaide have an away guernsey - the red number they used against Freo however they normally wear the blue uniform when playing Brisbance to avoid a clash of reds.

I could cope better with the Lions' white outfit if they didn't wear white socks ....

I actually support white guernseys and like all of them bar Brisbane's.

Today's match Bulldogs v Dees to me showed why the anti-clash policy is a good one.

Sales must be also slow of the white jumper and wearing at home might improve sales. It's all about the bottom line.

They'd probably improve sales if they designed a better clash jumper.

Matthews also believes in wearing light vs dark jumpers in a match. The problem is...that many of the traditional clubs have fairly dark home jumpers (e.g Melbourne, Carlton, Essendon, Richmond).I'd say we'll be wearing the white jumper against Essendon next week in Melbourne.

The Melbourne supporters (quite rightly) are jumping up and down about the white clash jumper.

Lions 'ballet strip' slammed.

May 17, 2007

MELBOURNE-based members and supporters of Brisbane Lions will present a petition to the board calling for the club's white clash strip to be canned - with a former club director saying it was like watching a "second-hand ballet".

The members will challenge the legality of the jumper believing it contravenes the merger agreement between Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears.

The Lions were inundated with complaints after the side wore the strip in the home game against the Crows on Saturday night.

Lions CEO Michael Bowers said the jumper's use was purely to avoid on-field confusion against the Crows, whose away strip also clashes with Brisbane's home jumper.

"We were very much between a rock and a hard place," he said. Ken Levy, a former director of both Fitzroy and Brisbane, said the petition was gaining momentum from fans. "There is extreme disappointment and dissatisfaction," Levy said.

"The guernsey has no identification with either the Fitzroy Lions, Bears or Brisbane Lions, you might as well be watching a second-hand ballet."

I thought this article fit within the spirit of the whole guernsey colour debate - quite interesting that some form of ownership can be claimed over colours if the brand is strong enough.
