Given that the alternative is the DOOM I think the players would take a patchy looking surface

Not looking it's best tho I agree. One thing about AAMI, the surface always looks a treat.

I heard on the Radio the G has had 5 games in 12 days so I guess that explains it fairly well.

apparently theres still grass, but its just a bit brown thats all

and the rain they've had hasnt really helped, because with all the new drainage it just floats away anyway.

In the right hand pocket when looking on TV doesnt get any sun at all during winter and minimal during summer...same as the TD, same problem....didnt think of it when designing the improvements!!!

If you look closely you can see the divots are filled in with green coloured sand, ala Augusta in the US masters, so it looks good on TV...

I was at the MCG sunday and watching the game at ground level for the 1st half and heard the commentators comment on how poor the surface looked in places. From ground level it looked fine but watched the game from the top level in 2nd half and could see what they meant. it did look sandy and patchy but didnt seem to affect play tho.
Walked on the ground after the match and thought the surface was very good although slightly damp especially in the shade of the stands. The divots full of green sand were a little shifty as one would expect but didn't seem to have any effect on play.

Surface rating..... 8/10

Walked on the Telstra Dome surface 2 years ago after a game and couldn't believe how long the grass was and wet and slippery it was.
It amazes me that the AFL have concerns over the surfaces of some of the country ovals they play the pre season trials on when they make teams play on the Telstra Dome Shit Heap week in, week out although it may have improved since then.
