Talk on the national game

CARLLLLLLLTON VRS BRISBANE

Postby mal » Sat Apr 28, 2007 9:04 pm

HALF TIME
CA 14-8
BL 13-1

27 goals in a half of football
2 premierhip coaches PAGAN and MATTHEWS thank you very very much
for playing footy as it should be played
Both coaches have several flags and you can see why
The players learn how to play football and teams like this will have the
opportunities to fast track into being good teams

I hope LAIDLEY and CLARKSON[no afl flags as coaches] are watching and learning off the master coaches.

Hear it all the time. How many will make the 8? That's the only barometer. Good game tonight, though.

Laidley and Clarkson, No Flags.   Mal, Give them a Break, Both coaching their 1st club and taking them on when they were stuffed. PAGAN, Premiership Coach, So What??? How much more time does he need to get Carlton up the ladder?
Master Coaches? My Arse. Players make the coach, Give a coach Crap players and see what Happens. Malthouse, Pagan, Mathews, Sheedy, Wallace would all be considered Top shelf coaches but where did their teams finish in recent years???? Bottom 8 Bcos they had inferior Talent.

And so Carlton and Brisbane should have played free flowing footy given that they are evenly matched and are at similar stages in their rebuilding phases and also playing indoors on a fast track... Scores can be decieving and just Bcos its a high scoring match doesn't meen that their development is being fast tracked. Could it be that the high score was a result of accurate kicking or a Lack of Defensive Pressure???
The last 2 premiership teams have proven that u dont have to play attacking footy to win the flag unlike Hawthorn and Nth Melbourne back in the Glory days when Real footy was played but times have changed and we r now in a different era due to new age coaches and the AFL rules committee.

Brisbane have a team full of misfits but geez theyve come together well. At the end of last year I thought they would be wooden spoon this year, then I did a prediction thing and they won quite afew games.

If you look at whos making impact with them, apart from the regular 5-6 players, there is:

Adcock - pick 33
Fixter - PS pick
Merrett - pick 30
Patfull - pick 56
Richitelli - Pick 61
Roe - Rookie list
Sherman - pick 45
Stiller - rookie list
Begley - rookie list

Add that to the well known group of Black, Power, Brown etc. and theyve done well so far this year.

I was a bit tongue in cheek at the start but I do think those 4 teams could be challenging deep in the finals in a couple of years.
