Umpires see the game differently (this is voted by the players???), but they cannot get it that wrong all year.

Just shows the players have no idea. They don't watch enough football

Popularity contest, influenced by media hype about how good Judd is.

Still I think the MVP/Brownlow/coaches award should be rolled into 1 and still called the Brownlow(to appease traditionalists).

Every game umpires vote, Coach votes opposite team only, and Captain gives votes for his team.

Assuming the captain can't vote for himself, they would have less opportunity for votes overall?

Agree the players MVP is very subjective when a large % of players openly admit they don't watch much footy other than their own game reviews and preparation.

I'm not saying Judd isn't worthy, but I'm with you on this. Would the average AFL footballer be in a position to provide valid judgement on who had the best year of his peers? Like Zorro, I’ve often heard footballers claim they watch very little footy not involving their club due to the all consuming nature of their profession and their desire to have a break from it. Not saying they all do, but some certainly. If in doubt jump on the media favourite!

Better still, do away with meaningless individual awards. It's not way player play the game, and totally unnecessary.
