Going out on a limb here as I don't recall seeing this sort of position in the Saturday employment section.

Work for an SANFL club in junior development.
Work for an SANFL club in talent identification.
Work for an SANFL club as a fitness advisor.

Perhaps spending all your waking moments watching junior footy all over the state to seek out the stand outs from the also rans.

Mate, it would be a plumb spot.....but I would think without being heavily involved at SANFL level anything less would be seen as insufficient.

Not absolutely necessary. But it could be good background experience

I know a couple of former/current AFL talent scouts, One wrote to the then 16 AFL Clubs expressing interest in helping them in talent identification. Went on like it was a cold calling job application introducing himself, so a bit of a playing/coaching resume can be included. 3 or 4 clubs wrote back to him offering an unpaid position. For the first couple of years he was told to go to a specific game and watch a specific player. Had to write weekly reports on the players he had to watch and it was only those players. As his experience grew he was allowed more freedom as he was allowed to report more generally on groups of players and eventually offered a paid position. With the paid position did a couple of interstate trips and went to the U/18 Carnival and got right into the nitty gritty of scouting. At the End of season had to go the the club with all the other paid scouts and for a week they would be locked in meetings sorting out every draft pick based on their scouting notes. So come draft time if you had pick 8 would would walk into the draft knowing exactly who you would pick. Only time that would change is if one of your higher ranked players is still available and that kid suited your needs. Was sacked from his club though when the President slashed the Football department spending and then wondered publicly why the club fell down the ladder the next season.

The other bloke I know also does some work for Champion Data doing the Adelaide AFL games and SANFL games. I imagine that he writes reports for his club from what he sees from the stats box in both underage and senior grades.

a couple of scouts for a melbourne based club are involved in our club and as the bloke above said, most clubs have 4-5 per state. maybe 2 of which are paid positions (not a lot from what i can gather) then they have other blokes they send too certain games to watch specific blokes.

the unpaid blokes are given a stats sheet to fill out with all different criteria of the game. the senior blokes have all been doing it for a while and i believe right a report on said players.

if you are personally interested pm me and i can pass on the no. of the guy i know. im sure he'd be happy to speak too you.

again though its one of those position that gets paid next to nothing/nothing for quite a few hours of work.
