The Kangas looked a million dollars early and Fev didn't really get near it. At one stage in the third quarter the Kangas had skipped away but the Blues showed a lot of guts to rally and reel in the deficit, being only 13 down at lemon time. After the break, the Blues continued their rampage and ran out convincing winners with the Fev getting right on top.
There appears to be a bit more depth at Carlton this year and I can't think of too many players that were missing from either side so maybe what I saw tonight might be as good as it gets from these teams. However, without a budget and at this time of the year it can be hard to work out who some of those blokes are. O'Halphin (17??) looked right at home in defence and Betts provides plenty in the pocket. Archer remains a presence and that McIntosh is a man mountain.
A lot of people are starting to go Carlton, North, Brisbane gee whiz but these sides are firing their best shots right now. The Lions will obviously welcome back Lappin and Brown so that will boost them but I can see Carlton and North falling away a bit as the season drags on and other clubs catch up to their fitness base. However on what I saw tonight, Carlton look to have at least North and Essendon covered and maybe Richmond as well but very early days.
As for the Cats on Friday night the less said the better!
