Great Movie Scenes - An appreciation

Was channel flicking last night and got onto Fox Classics about five minutes into North by Northwest. I stayed on to watch until the legendary crop dusting scene, where Cary Grant gets off a bus in the middle of nowhere, and then has a guy in a biplane try to kill him. Memorable for the line by the guy waiting for the cross-country bus 'Not sure why he's dusting that field. There's no crops in that field'. Moments later, the plane is heading for Cary.

Just made me think I wanted to nominate that as the pivotal scene from a great movie, and happy to hear any other scenes that stick out for people.

For me: The ear cutting scene in Reservoir Dogs. It confirms no one is going to get out of that robbery without a battle.

A few scenes from Pulp Fiction have always stuck with me, certainly the one where Marvin accidently cops it and Vincent needs to take his turn on "Brain Detail" ... And also Samuel L's monologue's including "What Does Marcellas Wallace look like, does he look like a bitch?" and "English Mutherf*&ker do you speak it?" But the most memorable of all is probably the Mexican standoff at the end.

Having just watched In Bruges so recently, I've found myself reacting all week with an Irish accident "In f*&king Bruges"

"When Harry Met Sally" obviously has a scene that's etched in screen folklore.

Funny how you can think of a squillion options for this except when you're asked the question lol

A couple of people have suggested a few different movie genres. I may have to resubmit a few others across a few other movie styles, since work very quiet today (which is good)

I know this will raise a few chuckles - the scene where Charlie Bucket finds the lucky gold wrapper in the original Willy Wonka is a fantastic scene.
All the hopes and dreams of a young boy realised.

I think there's a more poignant scene in The Godfather - it's the one where the door closes as the men discuss business.

It's been referenced so many times in so many tv shows or movies since.

How about Travis Bickle standing in front of the mirror in Taxi Driver - "are you talkin' to me?".

As a kid "Flying High" was my favourite movie, and Ted Striker's "Staying Alive" seen in the bar used to have me in stiches .. My old man still runs with comments from that movie (and Smokey and the Bandit) for a cheap laugh.

Another film: The Usual Suspects, when Verbal Kint leaves the detective's office. Right at the end.

The Untouchables: the scene with the baby pram where Ness has a shoot out at the train station.

I haven't seen the movie, but the Crying Game appeared to be quite famous, as did Sharon Stones crossover in Basic Instinct.

Yep fantastic scene and one of the best...can't listen to that song without thinking of it...and I know everytime I watch the film that the you don't see it actually happen but I still have to look away...Madsen plays a superb psychopath and Tarrentino's a brilliant director.

Also the very first time I saw that secial effect they called 'bullet time' in The Matix...when the action freezes and the camera still pans around...I know it's common place now but the very first time was pretty jaw-dropping.

Almost Famous - the scene in the bus with them all singing Tiny Dancer, great scene

from the Committments, when they are all on the train and they break into singing Destination Anywhere, they finally clicked

Breaker Morant, the final scene - "shoot straight you bastards"

Apocalypse Now, the surfing scene while the bombs are going off - "I love the smell of napalm in the morning"
