Tonally, it's a nod to Buton's '89 Batman.
But if it wasn't built into the Batman mythology, you'd write it off as a very mediocre procedural.
Probably explains the rush to introduce so many villains in the first twenty pages.
Shame Bruno Heller didn't have more faith in the Jim Gordon character.
This is more in line with Heller's
The Mentalist than, say
The Wire, which is what I hoped like hell they'd aspire to.
They had no chance at reaching those lofty heights - because that's the greatest television show ever made - but still...
