Saw it last night.
Pretty underwhelming. Those expecting a companion piece to The Boys will be disappointed.
Basically the same story beat and emotional pitch bashes you over the head for two relentless hours.
One-note characters. Except for maybe Bunting, who just goes from varying shades of psycho. But even then, he's pretty much just a cold killing machine. Kinda like a human 'Bruce the Shark' from Jaws let loose on the northern suburbs.
Problem here is we never get any real motivation for the killings. Yeah, Bunting hates paedophiles. So does the vast majority of the population. Doesn't touch on his own abuse at all. The Barry Lane-Robert Wagner relationship is also ignored. Both would've added depth, complexity and motivation to a script crying out for some.
Of course, it wouldn't be an Australian film without a passive lead character and P.O.V. Vlassakis is the victim the whole way thorough the film. May be true in real life but up on the big screen that's just boring as batcrap.
Curiously, the film is also missing a third act. If you find it, please return to the filmmakers ASAP. Before tomorrow's national release.
First advance screening I've been to where the freeloaders didn't give the film a rapturous applause at the end...
Everyone can eat s#!t! A big bag of s#!t! I'm the greatest man in the world!
