Interesting...

For all the bleating about "Salary Caps" let's assess the following....
Central Districts (player count) -1
Glenelg -5
North Adelaide -3
Norwood neutral
Port Adelaide -4
South Adelaide -2
Sturt -2
West Adelaide -6
Woodville-West Torrens +3
Now it appears that the holier than thou Eagles, who love to point out to the SANFL who's cheating the cap, have a net growth of players! Some of those players are on decent coin, perhaps, and they "lost" 2 players who weren't even on the books! (Watts & *chortle*Peel) So, perhaps the true count is +5? Now for a club with a holier than thou attitude (I've said it twice to reinforce what hypocrites they are), perhaps shifting the blame away from their own nest, so as to have some breathing space? Let's face it, they ain't gonna win a flag any other way!

Maybe you're just defensive, because it shows up the fact Glenelg haven't recruited anyone!

I think the difference would be the eagles are recruiting younger players as in the Bolton twins who would not command the money that say a KOOPS(ex AFL)would .( Cooper from sturt is older I know)
But hey I may well be wrong Im sure the SANFL will keep every fan upto date on this .
Cheers
Chill out dude

Probably the dumbest method of assessing each club's salary cap anyone's put up so far.

Ive heard stories of the Eagles being close to or over the cap, ironically having 2 other sides in front of them in terms of player payments and suprisingly to some those 2 sides do not include a team with red in their guersney. That was from a club official - I honestly would have no idea.

I think "net" player losses or gains is pretty irrelevent though as you have to look at the quality of players involved but you have quantified your comment to some degree in that aspect Punky.

Complete guesswork but looking at the quality of players that have gone and have come in my opinion on who is paying more in 2006 (so far, probably more recruits to come could change this) or less would be:

Central: less
Glenelg: less
North: marginally more (lost 5 league players, may have picked up 6)
Norwood: close one (marginal either way maybe)
Port: more (if you look at ins/outs I'd probably say marginal but hearing about what they've offered the new players I'd say comfortably more)
South: close one
Sturt: less
West: less
Eagles: more

Having look at my opinion it and Punky's post before he tried to upset Eagles people it does appear that things are slightly on the slide in regard to getting players here, this should be arrested immediately by perhaps raising the cap even if it is minimally. Perhaps even enough to keep up with CPI since its inception.

Come on guys, instead of just rolling out the mindless schoolyard insults perhaps make an intelligent post explaining why you disagree with his assessment.
I disagree with his assessment and explained why, its not hard.

PS Well done Punky, at least you created a topic that is obviously of interest despite me not agreeing with it. Unlike the trolls who just abuse people's opinions/posts while not coming up with interesting topics of their own. It may have been a point not agreed with you made but at least you have more intelligence than those who can only put down others views with mindless insults without presenting intelligent throught provoking topics of interest themselves. Keep up the good work punky!

Honestly guys, if you're just here to put others down whilst not being prepared to post a topic yourselves that make attract criticism or conversation then go back to where you came from.

Sensitive lot, you North supporters.

OK, I'll tell you why it's a dumb method.

Take your club first.

The ins are:

Koops, good salary.
Alleway, good salary.
Weatherly, reasonable salary
O'Hara, good salary
Walker, good salary
Howard, good salary
Schubert, peanuts
Cox, good salary.

That would be fairly accurate, save a bit of nit-picking.

Outs:

A correct, but totally misleading list.

Roe, good salary
McEntee, hasn't played league (?)
Cook, finished, normal match payments.
Staples, who?
S Ebert, who?
S Mumford, who?
D Redden, hasn't played league, got left out of the Reserves team (?)
Jeffrries, finished, normal match payments.
Toia, wasn't playing league.
Gilham, correctly shown as a Power player, $350 per game.
Grocke, fringe player.

According to this method, that's a loss of 3 players.

Give us a break.

Port

Outs

Brown, big money
Funcke, reasonable money
Cockatoo-Collins, wasn't playing league(?)
Francis, reserves
Bamford, normal match payments

Ins

Alvey, very big money
Bullen, very big money
Morrison, big money.

That's a loss of 2 players, according to punkie.

Not on the list:

Poulton
Lokan
Baird

plus, no doubt, a few I've forgotten.

Big money.

Are these enough facts for you?

RABs looks fairly accurate...plus i dont think the eags have recruited any players who could command a lot of money..

Cheers RAB, that wasn't hard was it?
Your summaries are out as North's pay structure is a fairly unique one to my knowledge. A couple of the normals your mentioned were on more than some of the goods you're mentioned but you have left it pretty broad with that summary and made the point you needed to.
(It wouldn't suprise me if Roe was our highest paid player or close to it, I know his girlfriend was wanting a nice hike in pay after his outstanding debut year, also like it up North)
If I appear sensitive its not because I'm a North supporter (I don't see what that has to do with it, pretty mindless/chidish/jeaslus comment IMHO when we're discussing the Eagles) its becasue I don't want this site degenerating into a schoolyard insults fest like some other sites become at times, I don't think that's asking too much especially with the age and intelligence of the lot of culprits involved sometimes. I honestly don't think I'm asking too much, I want this site to be something we can be proud of, not something that is looked upon as a joke by those in the SANFL community.
Cheers.

PS The only way the Eags are over the cap IMHO is if they're overpaying players more than they're worth hence why I question the official who told me otherwise.

Wedgie you are probably right in telling us off for being cheeky but why is punky having ago at the Eagles club ,when by the looks of it North Adelaide have a fair few well payed new recruits as do Port Adelaide .If the SANFL are serious about Salary cap breaches perhaps they should impose really heavy fines and say take away premiership points from offending team like ok your over the cap by a large amount you finish LAST wipe out your team for the year.
That maybe a bit drastic but wouldnt it stop salary breaches !!
