According to our (Glenelg) stats, Glenelg are averaging 322.2 possessions per game this year.

Unfortunately these stats are close to meaningless due to wildly varying levels of accuracy by the people taking the stats for the Advertiser.

Not meaningless I would think, Ecky. Wouldn't the stats be subjected to a conbination of a random error and bias towards a similar, apparently negative, error? I would have thought that therefore while the actual numbers might be incorrect, and even if a long way off (like 10%+) the stats relative to each other would have just as much meaning.

PS. Did that sound knowing and intelligent?

What you are saying would be right, if the people doing the Advertiser stats for each team were of the same competence.
However, the stats they take for Glenelg are consistently lower than the ones for other teams (demonstrated by Chris Kendall's ABC stats and Scott's stats as well as ours)

For example, last week the Advertiser had 44 less possessions than we recorded for Glenelg, while only 2 less possessions than we recorded for Port (we use the same definitions for both teams). Glenelg's stats are consistently lower, week by week, which is ironic, given that we are the most vocal "whingers" about this issue.

According to the stats, North should win by a goal or two.

Yeah, so if the stats are all equally wrong then they are right :?
