sturt supporters (i know) cant be serious

Postby bayman » Wed Aug 15, 2007 9:02 pm

there is a few sturt supporters i know (dutchy knows one & mt & mal know a few of them so they'll know who i'm talking off) have said to me after saturday, that they fear playing finals because they (sturt) can not handle the new surface at the adelaide oval

when quizzed they all seemed pretty serious, but i can not believe that because you lost 2 games on the new surface you'd fear playing there again

what do you sturt guys think ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Just hope the players feel the same way. Would be nice going into games knowing that the opposition is not confident. Btw, their effort against the Eagles was not that bad. Definitely not bad enough to have them feeling that they cannot win there.

Adelaide Oval surface fears are a load of cods. Our boys are not afraid of that rubbish or any of the teams in the finals race.
They're ready for the challenges ahead.

Has anyone been out on the ground since its been relaid?
If not, I'll wander out at one of the breaks in Rd 23 to suss it out and take some close up shots.

Its always in my back pocket, I only bring it out at the last second when walking on Adelaide Oval as I love that look security get in their eye when about to tackle me!
Only time I got questioned out there was when a club official sent security after me.
Some club officials are better than others.
I wont go into the bad ones but I will say as far as club officials that don't know me the Sturt officials are the best, they even let me sit on the seat next to them and enjoy many a conversation. :D

Reports from our players was it was quite hard and the rolls of grass are yet to knit/grow together - was a little uneven where the rolls join and still had a bit of movement underfoot.

yes I have

don't tell Les but I ran a few laps last night at cricket pre-season training. It was as dark as a dog's guts and what I saw of the playing surface I wouldn't like to see it in the daylight. The grass still needs time to gel properly before it gets back to its billiard table surface of old.

A mate of mine is on the ground crew at SACA, he did ask me how the Sturt v Glenelg game went and if the turf held up. I think the mighty old girls needs a little more time as suggested by heater 31. All the work was done so we can't fish the CARP on those rainy old days and nights...but more rain would be fantastic.

Hope it doesn't cost anyone a game or a knee injury.
Im sure the SACA could have played it safe and not had SANFL till next year but they probably don't give a stuff and just want the coin.

Didn't someone post somewhere that the surface was awful perhaps in the sturt vs eagles thread.
And don't be fooled by the way it looked on the TV.On the big screen the oval looked really green sorry to say it looked awful you could see the joins in the turf from the grandstands.

I thought the surface was better when we played Glenelg , than it looked last weekend.

I agree with your comments Dutchy. When we played the Bays we were 'due for a loss' and the Bays played some outstanding footy (particulary Douglas and Rudolph). The game last weekend was against last years top side and we lost by a small margin. To claim that the outcomes of these games are a result of the surface is a bit crazy I reckon.

As a supporter I have no fear of watching Sturt play finals at Adelaide Oval. Let's not forget there are two teams out there...why would Sturt in particular have a problem???
