Briefly addressed in another topic but deserves its own thread.
I must admit I was suprised to see he and Norwood had parted ways.
I thought he was a great player, gutsy, good skills and seemed to be a great club man.
This from the official Norwood website:
Stephen Bailey and Norwood agree on contract termination
The Norwood Football Club has agreed to release Stephen Bailey from his contractual obligations in 2008. The club and Stephen have agreed that it would be mutually beneficial for him to pursue his football in another direction. Stephen will not play in the remaining games this season. The club thanks Stephen for his contribution over the last few years and wishes him well in his future endeavours.

What's the story behind the story?

No loss, the changing of the guard has commenced, can only be good news! Great player, NO!, Reserve that term for Aish, McIntosh, Taylor and Co at Norwood, Gutsy with good skills YES!, Team player NO!

Bit harsh from what Ive seen of him but you would have seen more, I reserve the term Champion for the others you mentioned but its all relative.

One of the boys on the Norwood Forum put it perfectly imho, Bails was a player with limitations, but ran all day, put in effort, found plenty of the ball and GENERALLY used it well ... I would have thought he'd be in our top 6 players this year.
The club has obviously backed the coach to form his own squad so there can be no excuses for lack of performance or achievement, and I guess this is the only way to find out whether he's the right man or not for sure, rather than speculating (as many Legs fans are or have).
It's a shame to see Bails go as he is a good bloke, at the end of the day I guess the club is bigger than any individual and I hope for their sake they've got this one right, because quality players and people aren't alwaysd easy to find.
I hope Bails succeeds wherever he plays next.

Apparently the other players were told that Bailey was high-maintenance and didn't understand the concept of team.

No loss for Norwood IMO. In fact, they will be a better team without him.

Granted I only see several Legs games a year but I would have thought this was a huge loss?

Agreed too, probably the only bloke to consistently stand up against North, had been mentioned by many North supporters after games versus the Legs.

Bailey has tremendous ability find the ball, and find it often, unfortunately he turns the ball over too many times and all too often his direct opponent hurts the Norwood side on the rebound because Bailey does not work hard enough in the other direction to find his opponent.

Here is what is detailed in Jamie Masons blog on the NFC Site and is separate to the announcement:
" As stated on the home page, Stephen has requested and we have agreed to terminate his 2008 contractual obligations. It had become apparent over the last few weeks that both parties were heading in different directions regarding playing and coaching philosophy. There is no doubt that Stephen has made some excellent contributions to our club over a number of years. We are disappointed that Stephen and the club have not been able to resolve some underlying issues, however we are committed to building a side that is absolutely committed to playing for Norwood."
Read into that what you want.

Seriously this could apply to so many of Norwood's midfielders it's not funny.
Except Bryce Campbell of course who should be the template for any recruiting done,

Be great to see him still in the SANFL as I rate him as a player.
A Norwood mate of mine rang me today and told me there's quite a bit of turmoil down at Norwood at the moment but wouldn't elaborate on what it is.
Real shame just after they got their financies in very nice order.
Was it perhaps the fact that Trevor Hill was appointed for a further term that upset some players?

I don't really know of him. Would he be useful at Centrals?
The descriptions on here make him seem a player the Dogs wouldn't want to chase.
But....Westies supporters were doubtful we'd get much out of Slattery either.

Boo we need Norwood fired up to beat Port after suffering an unexpected loss to West this week

I reckon that will actually upset quite a few players, hopefully only those who aren't playing to a required level and none of the decent performers get taken out with them.
Everyone here has seen Norwood play in the last two years and other than a handful of decent wins here and there (usually against teams caught napping or fellow strugglers) we're promised and delivered very little, so it's pretty clear that change is required to try to pull ourselves out of the mire.
As I said, I just hope they target the right ones in the process ...
