Heard from a reliable Lobethal man today.

Unfortunately, I have it on good authority that when Chris and James finish their days at Central they will be lost to SA football and head back to Victoria.

You'd think the Gowans will retire from SANFL at the end of the year. I'd happily keep them around the club but they're starting to really struggle with injury now and it must be getting hard to go through the preseason for another year of punishment for them. Will be a sad day for the SANFL and SA footy in general when they pull up stumps on their league careers. The story is always that they will go to Victoria when done here, but with their business and 8 years of their lives entwined in SA could they stay even when football doesn't keep them here? Assistant coaches at the dogs for life if they want it as far as I'm concerned.

Given that they don't actually work in winter, I don't see their business keeping them here - carpentry is a very portable trade and could be easily moved back to Victoria with them. My mail is they will head off once they retire form league footy, but that it may not be as soon as many would hope.

Agreed. Smac, I am confident they will play on next year with the Dogs.

I've had that inkling too. Take them out of the midfield.
I feel they'd be more than handy sharpshooters in our forward lines.

I'd love it if they did stay, and I could see them contributing for some time in the forward lines if midfield duties are beyond them. I just wonder whether with the injuries they seem to be carrying whether the motivation will be there, or whether they are able to change their style to avoid being on the bottom of so many packs.

Snipers or sharpshooters, I don't care much really. 5 flags in 7 consecutive GFs is an achievement no matter how they play, and they picked up a few more GF appearances before they came here. Going for consecutive GF appearance 11 or something!

Well I'd like them to retire and then see them take up umpiring next year and teamed up with R.Williams for a few games.

now that would be worth the price of admission
