Adelaide Oval GRIPE!!!!!

Postby Mickyj » Sun Aug 12, 2007 9:34 am

OK so I don't like to complain but I will. :D
Arrived at Adelaide Oval before the two's started yesterday .Parked the car in the Adelaide oval car park paid the fee and headed towards the gate.
Got to the gate at 10.55 and followed another SANFL fan to the one open gate at the members Grand stand end.Was shocked to be told that the gates would not open for another 5 minutes.Ok so I waited .Ten minutes latter nothing no gates opening no movement.Walked up to the red coat girl standing at the gate and asked whats going on.Sorry sir the gate will open in five mintues .
So me being me I asked how come last week at Elizabeth we were allowed to go in at 10.45 am .The girl was muttering no security can not let you in.
At the mention of Elizabeth the wesco security guy (no security people around funny that) who had been standing behind the girl for as long as I had been waiting became alert. Now the people waiting to get into the ground with the exception of my 18 yo lad were my age or older .What were we going to do rip up seats or something!!
Thinking I may get my backpack searched because of the look the Wesco Security guy gave me .I handed that to my lad just before the gates opened.
Now having paid for SANFL membership I can get into any Eagles home and away match. Two minutes after asking why we can not get in the gates were open .That security gaurd was standing and watching me lol. Then this red coat kid was not going to let me in on my SANFL ticket because it was a Sturt home game. That was until I pointed out that ticket got me access to SANFL grounds no matter who's home game it was.
Was a great game to watch but then the car park was an utter nightmare afterwards. How there were no car accidents is beyond me.Why there was no one directing cars is beyond me.

SANFL if you are going to program games at ADELAIDE Oval take some kind of control. They charge more than any other ground for food etc .
And from reading this forum there are so many complaints by fans of all clubs re this oval and the people who staff it.
It's time to make a stand SANFL!!

I agree with you MickyJ. I love watching football at AO but the autocratic officials and way over the top pricing for food and drink tends to dampen each visit for myself.

There is a big story around that day and the events involving Klomp - he was a disgrace the way he carried on with the North supporters and targetted the NGS but I'll be polite and leave it at that.

But its just annoying that it happens at Adelaide oval .You would think a redcoat would know about SANFL membership allowing entrance to the oval!!
And the worst part really was the car park how no one had a prang is beyond me.
And I never buy or drink(well maybe a coffee some weeks) at the footy because places like Adelaide and football park charge like wounded bulls. When your on a tight budget every little bit helps.

But its all minor stuff really :D

I have to admit to having wondered if it might be more benefical to play minor round games at Thebarton rather than Adelaide. The one benefit of Adelaide being transport for those that dont have a car or may be over .05 at the end of the day.

Adelaide Oval is one of the worst grounds to watch footy at. This is why I will always argue that all finals be played at AAMI Stadium. Parking is attrocious, atmosphere is stale, inadequate facilities for a football game. This has been my highlight for this year - no Centrals games programmed at Adelaide Oval in minor round (I can even cope with 2 trips to Coopers Stadium as a result of this).

Also, is there a rule/regulation requiring a players race for each ground (heard this when I watched Today Tonight's great sporting scandals special? If that's the case, then isn't Adelaide Oval in breach of this by having players walk through the crowd unprotected at times?
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Adelaide Oval is a hole, hate the place and has been a pleasure to not have to play a game this year.
I can only think of one positive about the place and that's where its located.
Catering's crap, kids can't kick balls, security is pathetic, beer is awful and warm, food is awful and cold, half the grand stands are useless when it rains if there's even a touch of wind, ground isn't even shaped like an oval, sound system is pathetic, music at breaks is a joke, car park next to useless when it rains, impossible to get out of, surface drainage USED to be antiquated, price of things is atrocious and nigh on criminal and some of the change rooms that league sides have to used aren't even up to country standards.
That's just off the top of my head, could probably think of a few more issues with the place if I wanted to.

We sat in the Bradman stand Wedgie and the first thing my lad said was the 50 metre line doesn't look correct. From what he said the pockets or one pocket was square which did something to the shape of the 50 metre line.
And the cleaning contract needs to be looked at in the stands.Last year we left a budget in the seats we sit in. The next final we played there the budget was sitting in the spot i had left it!!
Yesterday 2 seats up the seat was covered in a blood like looking stain.

Funny the SANFL built football park when the two AFL teams are not playing on it like today why not use it.I understand the cost but come on if its staffing costs I was directed into a car park by 6 thats right 6 attendants(before 11am).Mind you going home 0 car park attendants.

Be interesting is it cheaper to rent ADELAIDE or use a stadium the league owns.I am pretty sure the west torrens council would be cheaper than the saca.

I walked on the ground at 3/4 time in the reserves and was shocked at the condition of the ground. It was so uneven, had dips and holes in it. And the most dangerous I thought was the lines between the strips of turf was so uneven, no wonder the players had difficulty with their kicks. Extremely lucky no player did a bad knee or ankle injury. It was no better than a country ground. It was not up to standard in my opinion and should not have been played on. Very poor SANFL!

Adelaide Oval is one of the reasons why our competition is so good. Beautiful ground and great place to watch the footy.

I can understand the negative comments regarding Adelaide Oval - I can also say that it's shit that you can't have a kick on the oval - what's sandshoes going to do to it? Pricing would be the worst out of the League, as well as the carparking being inadequate.

But there are also some good points about Adelaide Oval - good place to watch, particularly from places square of the wicket, or in this case, the wings. It also has character about it - the scoreboard and Moreton Bay Figs are iconic with the Oval.

But while there are negative comments about Football Park, I also like going there too. What I miss about there is the aluminium seats - I think they looked better than the blue seats.
