Flag Race well and truly open?

Postby LBT » Sun Aug 12, 2007 2:13 am

A month ago I was thinking to myself that this would be yet another year of the bulldog and that the rest were fighting it out to see who would finish second. However, now i can see three clubs as a genuine threat to centrals winning the flag: Sturt who on their day at full strength appear able to beat anyone, North although a little up and down have plent of depth and have overcome a major Psychological hurdle in Centrals, and the Eagles who started the year horribly but now are back on track with talented big game players back from injury + juniors that have stood up. Should be an interesting finish to the year...imagine a G.F without Centrals

It'd be nice to get Grand Final crowds in excess of 30k like we used to! :D

For that to happen Central would have to go out in straight sets, and realistically I can't see that.

You don't have to worry about pre 1990, even post 1990 North v West still attracted 37k and as recent at 98 I sold my members passes for $110 each in an almost sell out.

Next week will show how far both WWT and North have come. Just hope the win over the Doggies doesn't go to our heads.

An other performance like the last two weeks and north will be more than a match for the Eagles. Looking forward to a cracker.

Hope it's on the radio.

JohntheClaret if it is anything like the last two Eagles matches against Sturt and Cnetrals ,it will be a hard pressure in and under game.
But North play an attacking style of game as was shown by yesterday's score so who knows what type of game it will be.
I'll be there whatever the outcome.
The biggest match shaping the five is happening today Glenelg vs Port.

Until the powerhouse clubs Norwood and The Maggots get in a GF then dont expect 30K+ crowds. Hopefully the GF is a Central Eagles non-event like the last few years! Sour Grapes? DAMN STRAIGHT!!

The 2 largest GF crowds since 1990 were dogs v port in 95/96, bigger than norwood v port in 97.

In the unlikely event (esp us) that it is a Glen/North/Sturt GF there will be several bandwagons in the car park at Footy Pk, 42 000 (in the wet) last time we played in a GF. So I'm confident we would get a good crowd (certainly more than 30 K). I'm more confident of that than actually making it to the GF

Remember, Fester, the biggest GF crowds at Adelaide Oval and Footy Park haven't involved Norwood
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

LOL at Wedgie :D Not sure, but weren't CD v PA in 1995/96 both sellouts? Two of our GF's post '96 have been 30k+. Not sure that were totally to blame here
