Ginever signs on for 2008

Postby Magpies_Forever » Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:31 am

The Magpies have signed Ginever for the 2008 season. Because of the young players coming through who have grown up with Port Adelaide, he is the right person for the job.

A good appontment in my books. We haven't exactly set the world on fire under Tim, but he's new to coaching, there are a great crop of kids coming through and he will hopefully be able to transfer his passion for Port to these guys, as well as becoming more tactically astute.

We need stability after the past 5 years.

He would want to become a lot more tactically astute as some of his
decision making this year has left everyone at the games shaking
there heads.

I know we need stability at the club at the moment but there are a
lot of people ( players included ) who still do not think he is
the right man for the job.

And that goes double for the reserves coach.

The appointment of Ginever is the right move to take the club forward. With so many good junior's at the club it might be time to make Mark Tylor his assistant.

I am happ Tim has been appointed again.I am not happy with all matters off field though.

Sadly these off field issues will have some impact on the rest of our year,I hope nothing of this rolls into next year.

Care to share with us the off field issues?

Many of us have heard about no cash flow, players not being paid for a month and possibly longer, other players finding out how much some high profile players are getting paid (if they actually get it) and a few likely to leave at seasons end.

Also the deal re the POW Hotel is a shambles according to all reports but it was a desperate attempt to generate income but all it has done is generate a huge debt with the shared/original owners reaping all the benefits? Is that on the money so to speak?

Great news for Timmy and the club

Hopefully we can push some of these world beaters we've got playing in our under 19s up next year

Big step from 19's to league if they already haven't been tried at the higher level that might be deemed past it?

if that is the case every club that wins a 19s flag would win a league flag/play finals footy 2-3 years afterwards.....

Still waiting after our 1992 U/19s flag for ours....oh thats right players got drafted to the AFL some played league and others were great junior footballers but couldn't quite take the next step....as what happens to all junior premiership teams....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The other issue here is that with 4 AFL clubs and at least 2 SANFL clubs in the market for coaches it could well become a bidding war for the best candidates. We can't afford to get involved in that sort of thing, and surely Tim, with a couple of years under his belt, and a series of premierships as a player, has a LOT more to offer the club than an un-tried former player or a non-Port person.

1 year is a good move. Presumably it's Top-3 or out for Tim in 2008.
