Glenelg's lights project

Postby Sojourner » Sat Jun 23, 2007 8:03 pm

First time that I heard of this plan of the Glenelg footy club, it was brought up on 5RPH in their half time interviews. They are looking into putting lights on the Bay Oval for Friday night footy, the initial idea was that a mobile phone company was looking into putting a mobile phone tower up and incorporating that with the light tower design at the oval, yet it would appear that for whatever reason, I think objections from local residents that it is not going to happen. Yet the club still has plans to press ahead with the project, the projected cost likely to be around 400K.

Sounds like a great idea though, they have massive amounts of people in the area on a Friday night, with the right promotion there is no reason they couldent get some pretty good crowds down there, so good luck to the Bays!

Yeah heard this also. Whilst at Alberton today was talking to a couple of fellow Bay men and we all agreed what a great idea for the Bay it would be. Very similar to the Parade in regard to Surrounds. Just a short stroll to quality Pubs, Cafes and other venues. HOWEVER would much prefer for the GFC to get other areas up to scratch first i.e Catering, Permanent Beer Are on Snouts Hill and get the bloody toilets in under the Taj Mahal... :?
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

It'd be great, could you imagine a warm April night at the Bay watching a game under lights and then heading out to the Holdy or another establishment afterwards?
Great public transport with the tram too, IMHO would be the best oval for night footy, I hope it goes ahead.

Allen Scott is supposed to be looking at redistributing his support from the Power, considering that he once was a supporter of the Bays it could be a great opportunity to win him back to the SANFL!

He's a typical Glenelg/Power supporter, very fickle.

I love this idea. I reakon Glenelg would be the perfect venue for night football. As long as they have the lights close to the brightness that Adelaide Oval have (wouldn't be too hard on a smaller oval) I don't think anyone on here would have any objection to it.

New lights.

New outdoor bistro area.

Potential night games.

Now how about somewhere to take a piss?

Great idea. Any idea when it will happen?

Wasn't the Eagles also considering Thebarton for night games as well next year.

There will never be night matches at Prospect.
Gimmicks are for other clubs.

That's not a gimimck, that's a wish of Barrie's.
And what Barrie asks for Barrie gets as there's never been anyone close to him in the SANFL and he still is in our souveneir stand every home game, I don't see that sort of dedication from any other so called champions of the SANFL, not that they'd be close to Barrie anyway. :D
