Tasmania or NT side to be 10th team in SANFL?

A lot of speculation in the paper recently about a 10th team to join the SANFL from interstate. I know this topic has been done to death, but am interested to see if opinions have changed. Would seem to me the SANFL are quite keen provided the deal is secure financially.
Here are some articles within the past week or so on the subject:

I'd prefer Darwin as there's never been as awesome a supporters/club tour as North in the NT last year but I voted TAS simply because of cost and a better infrastructure set up for the SANFL IMHO.
TAS will happen in about 2010 and I look forward to it.

I am still not convinced that this isn't just a negotiating position/ploy by AFL Tasmania whose preference remains to play in the VFL
Doesn't sound like the 2 leagues have even met to dicuss it yet and AFL Tasmania quoted as saying they won't look seriously at it until the AFL completes its review of 2nd tier comps across Australia
I also struggle to see how a NT side will come in when that was looked at a few years back and found to be unviable ... what's changed since then?
I'll believe it when I see it
PS NT side based in Alice Springs????

I went with Tassie but a team from Alice would be good as well- they could train in Todd! Has Alice got a oval though?

After living there for 4 years, the Alice wins! Nice weather in winter, opposed to Hobart, would need to pack everything under the sun to keep warm and dry.
And the oval... Traeger Park. Good venue. Bring on Sturt v NT ... I'm there!

No one. The SANFL really needs to get back to 8 clubs. Who would merge though? I doubt anyone is willing to do it now, I'd be chucking out North Adelaide as we now have Centrals as the main club north of the city.

Alice Springs may be a nice place to visit but it has a population of 30,000 - not enough supporter or sponsor base to be a serious consideration.

I find it hard to make a decision on this one. I like the idea of a team from either NT based in Darwin or a Tassie team, but then I think about a few years down the track if the team is not successful and what will the crowds be like. I can imagine watching WWT vs Tassie at Woodville Oval in the middle of winter with about 800 people. I've ended up voted none. I don't think the SANFL needs a 10th team.
However, I do think Tassie and the NT should have representative sides in a competition equivalent to the SANFL/WAFL/VFL and I'd go back to the idea of having an Eastern Seaboard League including Tas, NT, Canberra, Sydney Ressies, Brisbane Ressies, Gold Coast, West Sydney and Cairns.

Do they pay you petrol money to watch your team currently?????????
The Devils for me already have a team setup and have a feel for the comp against West

Could have stopped there. Leave SANFL be, not sure why we persist in raising this.

None of them will happen:
Darwin to $$$$$
Alice to small a market unless they include matches in Darwin....
TAssie: they want to play in VIC, we are being used as pawns...

What a lot of crap, once again we go down this path, where is the money gonna come from ????
what is it gonna cost for a team from either alice, darwin, tassie, antartica or mars to come to adelaide every other week or the adelaide teams going to these exotic locations twice or three times a year to play ????
Is everyone prepared to pay $20 to $30 to go watch a local game of footy
and the price of food and grog will rise.
Think about fellow local footy followers.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF !!!!

You realise that the clubs wouldn't allow it if they have to pay even a dollar to have this happen. Any club coming in would have to be self funding.

Provocative Barto. Very provocative.

I will also clarify that if a 10th team was to come in I would prefer it to be the Devils.
Barto, we should have had 8 teams from 97 when the real PAFC left to join the AFL not the pretenders that are currently masquerading as the Port Adelaide Footy club

Do Tassie or NT have pokies to support the team and travelling like the SANFL clubs have? If so I cant see why they couldnt financially cope.

I think we should leave the Port Adeliade Magpies alone. After all, they wouldn't have happened unless someone at Port and someone at the SANFL didn't want it too.
In the 60's and 70's I hated Port with a passion, but can't seem to raise the same feelings anymore, (As much as I try too). It's just not the same team since PA left. And lets be honest, there might not have been a PA in the AwFL had they not completely dominated the SANFL through the nineties.
The best that could happen to the SANFL would be for the PAM to get some success, win over more Power fans and leave the Puff's struggling in the AwFL with falling attendances.
Now that would be a message to the AwFL, get out of South Aust.
