my reason is that of a selfish one, I am a smoker. We ( sanfl) dont play in stadiums like the afl. However, I believe a non-smoking policy in grandstands.
If you are standing in the outer of any suburban ground, outin the open, with the wind blowing, I doubt anyone who is a smoker will harm you and if it is annoying all you may have to do is move a couple of feet to get away from that dreadful, awful tobacco smoke.
The other option for you is to support an afl team.

They should do what they do at Football park during finals games/grandfinal.You wanna smoke get a pass out and go outside.
If you can not live with out smokes or booze until the game ends well to quote Mr T"I pity the fool"

I'm a weak ex-smoker who still enjoys the odd durrie, especially when I can scab off friends. Hence, if my friends aren't allowed to smoke then I will be less tempted. Ban 'em I say :)

You will lose too many supporters if you ban smoking at sanfl.

Other than that Id love to see it banned as you should not have to breathe in other peoples smoke.

You've lost me (again) mate.

Maybe I am wrong here...?

An illegal event (such as a flare) cannot be compared to a legal event... ( such as smoking)...

But from october this year, both events will be judged the same......

Mate, it was a joke, hence the mention of irony and the  at the end of the sentence.
I still have no idea what North has to do with it :?

I don't think its an issue at most games but yes it can be when some grounds are packed but as someone mentioned you've always got the opportunity to go into the grandstand (I think?).
Can you smoke in the family fun area?
