Isn't the question how would the Eagles team fit in with D. Hargraves?

Reserves Full Forward to take over from Oakley?

Seriously though, the key positions were a major concern from an outsiders point of view before season '06 started. We were lucky with both injuries and form. Grocke performed above expectation and played in every game mainly as our CHF. Passador performed very well and played every game and won the Ken Farmer medal at FF after generally playing across half forward in 2005. Westbrook played every game except one and performed above expectation and as our third tall forward after being more of a midfielder/small forward flanker in 04/05. McKenzie played every game, mainly at CHB and was the best CHB in the competition after being a midfielder in previous years. Pedler played every game and Hier came from nowhere in the last month of the season and performed way above expectation. Lindsay played every game except one as well.

If we had injuries to some of those key tall players we would have had to call upon inexperienced players in Angus, Salter, Coles, Vandeleur or the injury riddled Frewen or Hall and most of those aren't really forwards and all of them except Coles were injured for large parts of the year.

Another key forward is a must have for the Eagles in 2007, because it's unlikely we'll be as lucky with injury as this year. They're not easy to find. Hargraves is a proven league goal kicker and if everything went right could be great for the Eagles. However IMHO he's got too much of a downside and I'd rather see the Eagles try and get someone else or work on a Salter or Angus as a back up key forward.

I doubt very much that any team would pay $25,000 for a player with maybe 1 year left in him and that is a maybe as he might not last a pre season.

Do you really think another SANFL club would have to pay a transfer fee of $25,000 for Hargraves? I'd doubt it, considering North made the decision to axe him.

I think you will find that it will be a reasonable amount although North got rid of him.

I heard the early talk about hargy being a posibility to come to the eags, this was before north brutally sacked him. I beleive he will be an eagle next season and I can see him fitting in quite well.

I doubt that Hargy will go to the Eagles-
1) Loves North, & I believe he wants to be a 1 Club Player (in SANFL)
2) Eagles would be unlikely to pay 25K (+) Transfer Fee
3) He has been getting some very reasonable offers at Amateur & Country Level

If I'm wrong, then I would not have any ill will/feelings toward him (same as when Ray Ebel fronted for Port) playing for another side.
He is/was a North great.

The highlighted bit is absolute crap. He was stunned to be flicked from North and intended playing his career out at Prospect. Seriously where do these "stories" start......

And strong rumour has it that Hargreaves was looking at a coaching job in the country before he got the sack - as I said in a previous thread, he must have known something was up.

I could see him at the eags, but my feeling is he will take an ammos/country offer.

if he was 2 or 3 years younger, id want Sturt to make a bid for him.

Hargreaves would be handy pickup for 1-2 years, however i think he has lifelong chicken pox and therefore his heart wouldn't be in it.

Maybe it's just the logic in me, but how can a team expect money from transferring someone they don't even want ?

There is no way that Hargraves will play for the Eagles next season.

The (lack of) logic lies in the SANFL rules not with the club.
I don't think the club expects anything for him and expect to see him lining up in the amateurs or country.
Even if it wasn't SANFL rules North have money coming out of their backsides and would probably rather not make 5 or 10 k than have a player come back and bite them on the bum.
