I think Sturt have made an excellent decision. However, like Mickan with Glenelg, I'd give him three years of building the club up to how he wants it before judging his performance. Should see a different Sturt game plan to what we've seen in the past - perhaps built on the way Central and the Eagles play football.

I agree here, give him a few years, 2-3 minimum to build the list and develop the youngsters. Will certainly be interesting to see what type of game day style he brings and I look forward to following his progress with our club.

Heard nothing but great praise for the man so thats certainly a positive.

give him time to build the list around 2-3 years thats what is taking at westies and we have one of the best junior programs in the state if not the country

But you have raised a very interesting point Mighty Eagles for a great part of 2006 the Eagles seconds were winless and bottom .I did like Ricks style of game from the get go I could see he was building for the future, BUT his style was either not working or the players could not execute his game plan for a large slice of the year!! So what changed the team 3 things could be pointed out after the Draw with Port at Thebarton. Number one could be the inclusion of AFL players, when their SANFL clubs had the bye a very minor reason IMHO but it did help out slightly. Number two reason league players coming back from injury or being dropped on form (eagles played 46 players in the league team this year) ie FLO, Frewen,Hall,Spencer,Fiachi etc. The third reason could be with the inclusion of juniors who set the world alight in both 17/19 and seconds game ie Heir etc.
So if we put all three together at the same time it makes for a very good team to be coaching at one stage my lad said dad they could beat a league team with all the league players going around.

He looks like a coach, like Jars with only slightly more hair

Certainly looked like a coach all the way through the finals in the centrals coaching box with his fat head directly in front of he abc cameras

what basis to you make your Jars and McGowan comparison

BUT..is start to look a little like Jars and all through the finals at Adelaide Oval was the closest one to the camera in the Dog Box

Having said that nice that Spoggy has some fans!!

you can love Neil McGoran without taking a shot at Rick, his playing record speaks for itself including 2 premiership and a jack oatey medal, so in my opinion he has done the hard yards

as a player rick was not blessed with leg speed but worked extremely hard on his skill level and his work rate both ways was outstanding, so I am pretty confident sturt will be competitve from day 1, they will be skillful, discipline and they will work hard for each other

I've heard that Greg Anderson has been appointed as an assistant at Sturt.

Whether or not he is a great bloke or has a great work ethic or relationship with the players, sturt will still struggle. Some hard times ahead for the sturt faithfull and quite frankly, I dont care.

true, we will struggle for the next 2 years atleast, but id be disappointed if we didnt see some improvement in those years.

there will be a revival of sorts down there, but even malcolm blight couldn't lift them too high in their CURRENt position. if some of the victorian players they are talking to come through, things could change. interesting to hear that peter rhode's name has cropped up around the corridors there, for a couple of roles
