Round 15 Torrens University SANFL U18 Match Wraps

South Adelaide 9.11 (65) d Central District 4.8 (32)
South Adelaide has emerged as a contender for the Torrens University SANFL U18 minor premiership after eclipsing Central District by 33 points at Flinders University Stadium.

Now level with the second-placed Bulldogs on 18 premiership points, the Panthers were super impressive in the second half to suddenly stake a claim for the competition’s top billing.

Prolific Panthers midfielder Tom Wheaton starred in the middle with 24 disposals, eight clearances and a goal while teammates Jacob Sheean and Taylor Goad played significant support acts in the vital victory.

Central’s strongest performers may not have been at the top of its stats sheet but the Bulldogs’ officials recognised Nathan Johnson, Samuel Sibbick and Liam Fawcett for their efforts.

Sturt 5.17 (47) d Woodville-West Torrens 2.12 (24)
Sturt remarkably overcame a goalless first half to register a 23-point win against top-placed Woodville-West Torrens at Thebarton Oval.

Managing just nine behinds up to half-time, the Double Blues were fortunate the Eagles were also incredibly inaccurate in their 5.17 (47) to 2.12 (24) victory.

Dynamic Sturt rover Kobe McEntee continued his red hot form by racking up 28 disposals and five tackles while Henry Maerschel (21 disposals) and Ned Atkinson (20 disposals) also made a positive impression.

Top ball-winners for the Eagles Darcy Hudson (24 disposals) and Callum Fairall (29 disposals) tried to will their side across the line while Tate Delmenico added noteworthy support.

West Adelaide 8.3 (51) lost to Glenelg 21.11 (137)
Glenelg accumulated valuable percentage when it easily accounted for West Adelaide by 86 points at Hisense Stadium.

Mounting a late charge for the major round, the Tigers have now won their past four in succession since snapping a five-game losing streak in Round 12.

Selecting best players would have been a headache for the visitors’ coaching staff, who opted for Ben Ridgway (29 disposals, two goals), Kallan Bevan (28 disposals, two goals) and Conor Gluyas (three goals).

The Bloods managed to win the tackle count but it wasn’t enough as Bailee Gilbert (18 disposals), Jack Hutton (two goals) and Sam Burbridge (25 disposals, one goal) refused to give in.

Norwood 14.13 (97) d North Adelaide 7.13 (55)
Norwood remained in the major round shuffle when it overwhelmed North Adelaide by 42 points at The Parade.

Just three wins behind the top-placed Eagles despite sitting in seventh place on the ladder, the Redlegs led at every change as they earned victory despite having four fewer inside 50 entries.

Such was the evenness of the hosts’ performance, not one player reached the 20-disposal mark as Noah Daw (19 disposals), Jacob Newton (19 disposals, two goals) and Jay Polkinghorne (five goals) had a huge say in the result.

North’s charge was led by Jed Dignan (26 disposals, one goal), Tom Stevens and Tom Tasker (31 disposals), the son of former Rooster and Crow Sean Tasker.

It is very interesting that they are playing mid-week, not certain of why.

They do have a rest weekend before the finals which allows the best players to play in the inter-col games, then play the following week in the finals for their clubs.

What a joke, lets stop the AFL pathway for all the elite kids in the state for a week so they can play in college game. I bet the kids that dont go to the private schools get rested and SANFL clubs dont allow them to play for their local clubs in case they get injured.

Our boys played club on Sunday if that's what you mean. They're not college kids. Our club team struggles with numbers some weeks, so to have them available was really important.

Round 18 Torrens University SANFL U16 Match Wraps

Glenelg 7.7 (49) lost to Sturt 11.8 (74)
Sturt denied Glenelg a spot in the top four by defeating it by 25 points at Stratarama Stadium in Round 18 of the Torrens University SANFL U16s.

Ladder-leaders since Round 2 and deserved minor premiers, the Double Blues always looked in control against the Bays having been in front at each break.

Sam White was terrific for Sturt, booting three goals while also gathering 22 disposals and four clearances, as teammate Louis Kellaway managed 23 disposals and a goal.

Glenelg, having missed out on finals qualification by just 0.53 percentage points to North Adelaide, had consistent performer Timothy Alver accumulating a game-high 33 disposals and a goal.

Central District 10.11 (71) d North Adelaide 9.4 (58)
Central District got the better of North Adelaide at X-Convenience Oval to win by 13 points.

North held a slim lead at quarter-time, but Central took four-point margins into both the main break and the final change.

Two final-term goals to Bulldogs forward Cameron Nairn helped the his side gain the two points in a match between two finals-bound outfits.

Tall utility Dougie Cochrane was outstanding for Central, both through the ruck and in attack, gathering 35 disposals, 10 marks, 13 hitouts and two goals in a best-on-ground performance.

On-baller Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier was North’s most prolific ball-winner with 28 disposals and a goal, with teammate Charlie Dickeson booting two goals from 24 touches.

Woodville West Torrens 11.9 (75) lost to South Adelaide 13.9 (87)
South Adelaide defeated Woodville-West Torrens by 12 points in a see-sawing affair at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

The lead changed four times throughout the game, but a run of four consecutive goals in the third quarter was enough for the Panthers to assemble a winning margin.

South’s Patrick Carman was the star up forward booting five goals, while Cameron Woods and Jesse Nye got the job done in the midfield.

Consistent duo Brock Jamieson (28 disposals, five marks and a goal) and Zane Peucker (24 disposals, six clearances and a goal) stood out for Woodville-West Torrens.

Norwood 6.6 (42) lost to West Adelaide 6.7 (43)
West Adelaide came from behind to claim a dramatic one-point win over Norwood at Coopers Stadium.

In a tight battle, with neither side able to kick away to a comfortable margin, the Redlegs led by 10 points at the 12-minute mark of the final term.

But two quick goals to midfielders Zanen Syrokos and Patrick Amber put the Bloods back on top and they managed to hold on until the final siren.

Syrokos and Amber were instrumental for the Bloods, accumulating 24 and 26 disposals respectively while having a big say on the match.

Jack Hayter did all he could for Norwood, collecting 36 disposals, 14 tackles and a goal, with teammate Darcy Speyer (28 disposals and nine clearances) terrific at stoppages.

I see the squeeze on Glenelg's metro zone is having its desired effect....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
