Can anyone clarify the following please:

1. The qualification/eligibility of players to play finals for the Port Magpies AFTER (assuming) Port Power exits the AFL finals.
2. Which Power listed AFL players meet this criteria and will be able to be selected for SANFL finals.
3. If some AFL players have to sit out for a week after Port exits AFL finals, and who.
4. Any other relevant permutations that affect Port Magpie selections during SANFL finals.

• No qualification criteria for AFL players during the SANFL finals series while Power in finals
• After Power out of the AFL finals a player must have played the majority of his Football at SANFL level, or 3 of the last 5 games at SANFL level to qualify.

So we could see Monfries play a SANFL final this week (if Power are smart enough to drop him) when he hasnt played a SANFL game for years

Do Port still need to name a "1st grade match 22" even if the Power are out of finals? Otherwise Magpies could potentially have listed players 19-40 available (if qualified) and play them, making them stronger at this time of year than during the season.

If a player plays for the Power on Sunday but otherwise meets all of that criteria, does he have to sit out of footy for a week if the Power lose before he can play SANFL again?

If not qualified they can only play as long as the AFL side is still active.

If Neade and Moore hold their spots in Power side this week and lose they are not allowed to return to SANFL side. If you play in a AFL final where your team is eliminated you remain classified as an AFL player for the year.

Can get tricky if for example Neade (SANFL finals qualified) is picked in AFL final and Monfries is picked in SANFL side. If Power lose then technically neither of them should play in SANFL final the following week(s). Either would require a permit from SANFL - I would hope SANFL would not entertain any such permit requests from AFL aligned teams.

Port could have a few players available for this weeks final and then not available for subsequent finals.

The "Or" component works nicely for Port.

Cam Hitchcock and Kane Mitchell have both played 3 of the last 5 games but each has a total of seven SANFL games for the whole season.
Cam O'Shea has played 10 games for the season but none of the last 5 games.
Neade has played 2 of the last 5 SANFL games but 14 for the season. However, he played for the Power last start.

By my count, 13 other AFL listed players are eligible on both counts - at least 3 of the last 5 SANFL games plus a majority of SANFL games.

The qualification is SANFL>AFL or 3 of the last 5, not both. Whether a game in the SANFL finals count towards these tallies I'm not sure, but would think not.

Edit: The other thing is the Power may want to put a few of these guys away for either surgery, rehab of any niggles or simply to not risk injury. But an independent SANFL doctor needs to agree that they shouldn't play. I wonder how hard the SANFL will push for this to happen given the number of knots in various pairs of knickers.

This is where the whole system is wrong. Once you have played a set number of AFL games you should be unable to play SANFL finals then you dont have all this crap to work out

Interesting that there can be two interpretations of "a majority of SANFL games". Either ten or more SANFL games, OR an equation of AFL to SANFL games which discounts games missed due to injuries, reports or whatever.

The doctor issue is also interesting.

I had Mitchell and Hitchcock on 7 SANFL games each based on SANFL statistics on their website. I have Moore on 8 SANFL games and 1 of the last 5 SANFL games. Moore doesn't qualify on either grounds unless as you point out he played less AFL games and therefore the majority is a ratio, not an actual figure. On that method, Boak or Trengove for example could get injured in round 1 of AFL, do rehab, and return for 2 games of SANFL. Finals come along and lo and behold, they are eligible for SANFL selection?

- SANFL doctor to provide 2nd opinion on surgeries before end of season."

I've interpreted the part in bold that if a player has played more SANFL games than AFL games in the season, he qualifies. So under your Boak/Trengove scenario they would qualify.

I look forward to the SANFL doctor stating a player should play and not go for surgery.

How could they possibly enforce that?
