The Magpies had another rare loss, going down in a thriller to the red and white and yo-yos while the Crows are looking like a possible finals candidate with a very impressive four quarter performance against the Panthers...

Think this one should be closer than the first time these two sides met. At that time the Magpies were flying and the Crows struggling. Adelaide have now won 4 of their last 6, with Port's form wobbly. The Power do not play at all on that weekend, so imagine Port Adelaide will promote this game heavily, and with the Crows away, all being well there should be a good turn out at Alberton.

Hope I'm wrong, but Port in a close one.

You can make a case that Adelaide should be at least even-money in this game, as they have some decent form and their squad seems to be bucking the usual AFL trend by getting healthier as the season gets longer, while Port's squad has real injury problems (with the reserves side obviously bearing the brunt of those problems as their best are taken to plug holes in the AFL). However, it's stretching it to call a "likely finals candidate" a team that is effectively 3 games out of the finals spots, with 5 games to go, playing 4 of the current top 5 in those games.

Okay, you make a good case against my statement...

Perhaps wording it as 'a possible finalist' would have been more appropriate?

So we're expecting 100,000 members lining up at the gates, right? But seriously...I think 4-5k would be an 'ok' crowd but 7k+ would be hoped for.

Personally I don't think it would get anywhere near that...

Crows have the week off. Could see some bigger names back that need a run? Tex would benefit for sure. Doubt they would play him though. Hendo and otten would also benefit after their games on Friday.

Can they play them if they played AFL the week before? I don't think they can.

Well in that case what is to stop them naming the first 22 to play in their 'seconds' competition??

They wouldn't do it even if they could, but I didn't think there was anything stopping them. Happy to be corrected though

Probably because this game is on Saturday the 26th of July and the "AFL" side play on Sunday the 27th of July - that would be a good reason not to.

Oh didn't realise the crows reserves wasn't for a fortnight either. My bad.

A lot of Crows fans wouldn't attend Port home games at Footy Park, hard to see them stepping foot inside Alberton

Its genuinely sad that people wouldnt go to a game because its at Alberton. No AFL in Adelaide that week end, maybe a crowd of 4-5K would be about right?

To my surprise I know of a few crows supporters who've never been to a SANFL game before this season (in fact one didn't even know what the SANFL was, I had to explain it to her...) and have been to most of the crows reserves games this year. A lot of those types might be going. Probably not 4k of them though.

Should probably have been programmed as a standalone on Sunday to avoid clashing with the bay rooters game.

Crows play Collingwood at the G on the Sunday so I assume they scheduled it to avoid that clash.. Is there anything contractually stopping them from playing this game on the Saturday night at Adelaide Oval? Apart from Port missing out on cash from losing a game at Alberton?

Cost of opening Adelaide oval is quite likely to be higher now and may not be feasible anymore?
