Probably a similar financial effect to losing a single poker machine, at least in the short term.

50k for West would literally be the difference between staying or folding

WRONG AGAIN!!!

https://sanfl-content.imgix.net/content ... b-2022.pdf

$50k would represent approx 2% of the clubs turnover

And in a good asset position with an upgrade to facilities on the way.

Frampton’s GF role? Well, he did manage to stop Andrews kicking any goals.

Not that you care (because winning premierships is foreign to you :P ) but his job was to stop Andrews getting intercept marks which he did for 3/4

He just **** up when the ball came to him and he could have marked and goaled (twice IIRC)
Almost like he couldn't think about 2 things at the same time

I was also going to mention that he faarked up a couple of gimme marks, but that would have negated whatever influence he had on the match. O:)

Premierships? This is an SANFL thread, no?

I'm not advocating for them to stay but I'm pretty sure the Ch 7 TV deal was tied to the AFL team's entries into the SANFL, what would happen to the TV side of things if they both depart? I would think Ch 7 would probably bail and I don't think the ABC broadcast state footy leagues anymore?

No. That’s incorrect. 7 still broadcast games in 2020 with no afl teams in the comp.

But Chandler stressed that the SANFL would remain a valuable media commodity, which this year continued to produce plenty of “eyeball’’ numbers for broadcaster Channel 7, the AFL and SANFL live streaming and other media outlets, including The Advertiser.

Channel 7’s broadcast commercial share average for the 2023 season was 40 per cent, with a 63 per cent share for the league grand final between Glenelg and Sturt, which peaked at 100,000 viewers.

“That’s enormous numbers,’’ Chandler said.

And the punchline? The SANFL pays Seven for the coverage. Could the cart be any further in front of the horse?

Having 2 teams with different priorities and conditions in the SANFL was obviously never going to work, which hindsight has vindicated.

Pity that the (supposed) last year of their participation in the comp will be remembered the way its heading so far.

I don't have the hate that some may have (which is OK by the way), but am happy that the 'experiment' is (allegedly) coming to an end.

The Magpies weren't mean to survive past 1996 (Port wanted them gone, but the SANFL demand that they continue) so I guess they got nearly 30 more years out of them, but there's no point them being here anymore.

The Crows, on the other hand, should never have been allowed to enter.

It also looks like neither team in their AFL form will achieve the ultimate in the SANFL, which most of us I suspect are very thankful for.

It is the broken promises which is most frustrating.

The promise the play to win and to play to the line at all times was always a furphy, it was always a development tool for them (and I don't blame them) but they got in on the condition that they would respect the SANFL competition.

Don’t ever forget that Glenelg, Sturt, Norwood, North, West and WWT sold out the league.
