IMO one of the best players to play at West Adelaide. Well done Ferg, we will miss you

The West Adelaide Football Club regrets to inform our Members and supporters that Ryan Ferguson has announced his retirement with plans to relocate back to Victoria.

History will show Ryan Ferguson as perhaps the best player to wear a West Adelaide guernsey. His leadership, courage and pride in performance could never be questioned. He finishes as one of the Club's longest serving captains.

The West Adelaide Football Club will forever look to Ryan as a champion player and a champion person.

We also acknowledge the contribution from his wonderful wife Bree Munro in her role of Player Welfare Manager.

Ryan, Bree and their family will always be welcome back at the Club and they will be missed by many. We wish them all the best for the future.

A true champion. Certainly one of the greatest WAFC best ever players. Courageous, skilled, dependable, and rarely beaten. Would be first picked in my team any day.

Great career, certainly one of the modern-day champions. Unfortunate for him not to be able to play in a flag at Westies.

The gameplan was to blame for that IMO. A great player though. Still can't believe he played for so few years in the AFL.

Agree, but didn't think it was the time or the place to rehash that.

I guess he can slip off into coutry footy in Vic where he will be free to duck his head and pull out of contests without the scrutiny that comes with the SANFL

Like how he ducked into Ainger's knee in the Qualifying final and spent a night in hospital, number of stitches in the head and missed the following final. Didn't realised that happens to players that pull out of contests.......

Ludicrous statement from the club. Dick Head, Bruce McGregor, Neil Kerley, Luders, Lindner, Borchard, Mickan, Benton ... Frank Lesiputy

RYAN Ferguson is moving back to Victoria after six seasons, 108 games and four best and fairests at West Adelaide.

But the 32-year-old defender may not have played his last game under former Bloods mentor Andrew Collins.

Ferguson is weighing up an offer to line up for VFL club Williamstown, which signed Collins as coach earlier this month.

Collins joined the Bloods in 2008 - the same year as Ferguson - before stepping down at the end of the recent season.

If he joins Williamstown, Ferguson, a teacher, is likely to eventually move into coaching.

"Williamstown has made a pretty good offer ... which I'm considering pretty strongly," Ferguson says.
