Possibly, but he'll need to back by 6:00 pm for training that night.....

Heard that former Collingwood/Fremantle player and Melbourne Assitant Coach Leigh Brown has applied for a couple of the vacant SANFL coaches gigs...

Obviously the full time gigs available? Don't think the part time ones would be attractive to an interstate coach.

Ah, yes, I forgot he also played for the Roos...

Did he end up being an Assistant Coach at Collingwood for a season as well, before going to the Demons?

Was coming to West before he got drafted to Collingwood. Would have been handy in the SANFL

NATHAN Bassett's new suitor in the AFL is Essendon.

The Norwood premiership mentor is a contender to be part of the new Bombers coaching panel that is expected to work under Mark Thompson while James Hird serves his AFL ban to late August.

This follows North Melbourne withdrawing its offer to add Bassett to the Kangaroos' coaching staff because of financial constraints that cut Bassett's original contract in half to $80,000.

Essendon assistant coach Simon Goodwin this week is due in Adelaide to meet his former Crows team-mate while Bassett is preparing Norwood for its SANFL grand final.

Bassett insisted his commitment to the Redlegs would stop him going to Windy Hill this week when the Bombers hope to name Hird's stand-in coach and a new panel that is expected to include former Essendon player and Fremantle coach Mark Harvey.

"I'm certainly not meeting anyone from Essendon in Victoria this week," said Bassett.

Im now very glad Josh got his AFL job earlier on and that the announcement got out the way early (but perhaps not as early as it could have been), would hate all this conjecture about meetings, jobs, etc in grand final week.

There's been this conjecture about Bass going to the AFL for three years. It's a non-issue.

Are we likely to see any new coaches into league positions this year?

It seems like nearly all the names being bandied around have been sacked from previous clubs - a number while still having time left on their contracts.

Fuller - sacked and paid out a years salary facing a player revolt
Norman - sacked and paid out a years salary having "lost" players
Mickan - sacked mid year with players losing faith
Jarman - let go from North and then struggled at Perth
Mcgowan - left to go to AFL

While it is quite common for coaches to lose their jobs eventually it seems like some of these have ended particularly badly and yet clubs are apparently seeing them as the best candidates on offer.
