umpires are now security

Postby westies sarge » Tue Aug 29, 2006 1:08 pm

at norwood oval i was standing behind the goals yelling my frustration at robbie dejonge for injuring one of our players in the ressies and the umpire came up to the fence and told me to curve my language as i was close to the family friendly area and i didnt even swear the security guard had a word to the umpie at the end of the game but apperently he (the umpire) spouted some pro norwood scentences to some westies supporter who had a go at him for doing this.

Gets a tick from me.

I know someone who was thrown out at Adelaide Oval for saying stuff and this was at the Bradman Stand end.

Perhaps following on from the threads concerning the Sturt v South incident last week, I noticed at the Parade on Saturday some fair obscenities launched at a very audible level ... Now personally bad language doesn't bother me and the comments weren't laced with malice, however I did notice the security guard standing right behind us doing nothing about it ... Surely, SURELY, these guys need to be reponsible for dispensing warnings or ejections to try to avert anything bad happening, rather than waiting to eject someone after they've belted a fellow supporter??

Really seems to me that the security guards are placed at the footy as a token gesture, allowing the SANFL to be seen to do the right thing!

And that's just the way most security guards like it.

Funny, I have been thrown out of every suburban ground (except for Elizbeff) in the past for swearing. Things aren't as tuff as they used to be!

Well said Adelaide Hawk you dont need to swear to get your point of view across.
Some of the on field players need to learn this as well!!

Good to see the umpires getting involved, a really smart thing by the men in white.
On the same subject, well done to that great umpire most people love who umpired reserves at Prospect last week and even went as far as dishing out fashion advice by allegedly stealing a supporter's hat and throwing it back at him later.
Mr Umpire, just be thankful the supporter wasn't me or a lot of other people otherwise you might have ended up in hospital son.

I was there too Westies Sarge and that umpire need's to be dragged
over the coals for his verbal actions....What you were saying to the
Norwood footballer was not offensive to the public in any way...
Also you were at least 80 meters away from the family area..
That umpire should concentrate on what's happening on the ground
and not off it...That security guard was very close to you and if you
were using foul language then he should of stepped in , but he just
laughed it off anyway. That umpire was a joke and copped more
abuse for the rest of the game anyway , Some of it even came from the
friendly family area...He won't get many league games with his attitude.

Mickyj & Hawk, did you even read the post? Sarge said that he didn't swear. Doesn't seem to me he did anything wrong. I think the umps should worry about the game, not whats going on over the boundry. If it was bad enough then security would have done something about it.

Was it Darrel Hair?

Seriously, this isn't basketball. If the ump is that thin skinned he shouldn't be umpiring.
