FOXTEL Cup Results - ON FIELD DISCUSSION

Postby Brucetiki » Sun Mar 27, 2011 6:58 pm

Wasn't sure whether this fits under SANFL, AFL, or the Other Sports thread (mods feel free to move it if needed), but I thought I'd start a thread with the Foxtel Cup results.

So far just the one game - an all QAFL affair between Morningside and the Northern Territory at AAMI Stadium.

Final Score
Northern Territory 12.4.76
Morningside 9.7.61

Next game: East Perth v North Ballarat, 2 April @ Patersons Stadium. 4:55pm start.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Well it is an AFL sanctioned comp, so it belongs in here. Would be an idea to make a sub forum for it. Maybe only allow people who support the teams competing to post?

Good on the Thunder. They left Darwin at 1:30am Saturday, won the game and flew back that night. Have some better players still to come into that side also. Although they will get thumped in the next round. If thats the best QLD have to offer, the Labs will get disposed of easily.

I was amazed as my daughter sat in front of the TV for the entire game and watched it, this from a kid who prefers not to go to SANFL matches. I didn't see any of it but I know she has a new cult hero called Rocko or something?

Rocco Tungutalum. Kicked the first 4 goals for the Thunder. Spent some time on the rookie list at St Kilda last year.

I saw quite a bit of the game and enjoed it too. Had to laugh when even the commentators (Schwass, Ramanauskas, Ricciuto and Boundary Rider Ben Dixon) actually started talking about how much they were enjoying the (non-AFL) style of footy!

No need to restrict this to supporters of competing teams IMHO, FWIW.

silly question. How do teams get slected to play in this comp?? If it's supposed to be the best teams from each state, how come Centrals aren't playing?

Adelaide Galvanising will be so happy about the Westies guernsey.
Imagine the exposure to anyone in Australia sitting right up to their TVs with a magnifying glass. :?

Adelaide Galvanising are very happy about it.

It's extra exposure for nothing for them and there are a lot of close-ups in a televised game.

Sour grapes, HBT?

Well, sometimes you can get a "little" something for nothing. I think city mazda are able to advertise on the players underpants. Good to see Coles is a major sponsor of Westies.
It's worked already. I couldn't read what it said, so went to the Adelaide Now website to see who of the visible sponsors was a Westies original.

Its great to see 3 of the SANFL teams in guernseys that all 9 should be like all of the time, much better than the SANFL versions.

How can it be sour grapes if we declined the invitation? West are only playing in the Foxtel Cup and being proudly sponsored by Adelaide Galvanising because clubs like Norwood said 'thanks but no thanks'.

Not sure how you can read HBT's post as envious r'n'b.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

And you would have found out that Foxtel and Coles are the comp sponsors and Adelaide Galv is the West sponsor - nothing new there.

And City Mazda were never expecting anything - they're the Oval naming rights sponsor.

Keep dredging, sjt ;)

How about we keep this thread for the results and discussions of the games?

There's another thread that already exists for slagging the teams that are playing or those that declined.

Well, topsy, I thought I detected just a slight bit of sarcasm in HBT's post above, so I wondered if he was perhaps protesting just a bit too much now that it's a done deal.

I'll accept your argument that he isn't fussed though and just put his comments down to .....err, ....... I'm not sure - 'sarcastic criticism' ????

Or just people who support the teams who weren't narrow minded and brave enough to compete. Highly likely that the 3 teams competing won't win a premiership this year (as was the case before they agreed to join this comp), but it will be of benefit in the couple of seasons to follow. It will be the only occasion in my life I will be barracking for West. ;)
