Good old SANFL. If this is true, they had a chance to send the message this kind of thing is not acceptable, and they failed miserably.

So the popping sound I heard last night was a can of worms being opened? The public reaction to this should be interesting.

Watching it last night on ABC2 it was ten times worse than the Salisbury incident on Champion in the 1990 Foundation Cup final. At least Scooter was concussed when he hit Like Scooter McCabe wasn't going for the ball.......

need Ashley Porter to whip up some mass histeria.....McCabe would have got games then...

For those who don't understand the reprimand decision on McCabe: The Adelaide Thunderbirds next home game is against the Melbourne Kestrels (ETSA Park) 23 June 2006. Be there.

He had to be found guilty to vindicate the decision to report him via video, but at least common sense prevailed with a reprimand only, as the incident was minor and almost within the "rules of the game", except he caught him front on, if it wasn't front on, then "play on" would have been the call.......Go you Reigning Premiers, Reign on!.......And Luke MaCabe, put in a BOG performance against the Bays on Saturday, as all of their supporters are spitting after the tribunals decision!

Aah, so that is why Tassie is getting so upset by all of this. Good point Mark. Obviously the Bays are a little concerned about the team they humiliated a couple of months ago. I am sure the Centrals players are looking forward to this week.

But that's what makes the Sanfl so good it pretty much is acceptable! That's part of the fun of going to the footy it creates atmosphere and makes the next 10 minutes of a footy match sensational as you find out who wants the hard footy and who doesn't. I know the politically correct amongst you will say it's not on but deep down you all know it's what we love to see.

Disappointed with the SANFL as I didn't think he was guilty of anything but I suppose they have to appease the AFL/Netball followers.
At least he didn't get any games, would have made a mockery of the whole competition if he did and it turned it into the laughing stock the AFL is currently.

Let's just thank the gods that there wasn't an offence committed that deserved games in front of the Port cheersquad, imagine what might have happened then after seeing how they reacted to a little bump.

You obviously have not seen the incident. And I cannot wait to see how you would react if a North player was similarly taken out by such a "little bump".

Ive seen it, no raised arm, no raised elbow and within 10 metres of the ball, well within the rules of the game IMHO.
If he was a North player or not would have nothing to do with it, I'd have the same opinion of a fair bump, unlike others I watch incidents like this from a non biased perspective as can be seen from various comments I've made over the years (which sometimes upsets other North fans as I quite often don't agree with the majority).

Having these sort of bumps outlawed is one of the reasons I won't even contemplate going to an AFL game these days, they're soft and boring. I would suggest if you don't like a bump or two then the AFL would suite you too a tee.

It's actually a skilly of Australian Rules Football to have a vision of bumps coming and being able to protect yourself from them.

I got cleaned up a few times myself similarly to Butcher and had no problems with it, as I said, I do have problems with players who do dirty gutless stuff that they try to hide like Port players did for almost 2 decades in sliding into packs knees first into players kidneys, it does take an astute footy observer/player to notice these however.

BUT I can see the other side of the argument, ie mothers wanting to keep their kids out of AFL and taking up a soft game like soccer to avoid injuries, personally I'll just teach my kid to keep an eye out for these bumps and how to protect himself as all good parents/coaches do.

I will admit knowing some of the background of Butcher's reasoning to go to Port as do many of the Centrals fans made me enjoy it a tad more than I should have though.

Keep the physicality going SANFL, its a big exciting component of REAL football.

PS It makes me laugh at no end how some people have a problem with this bump but haven't said one thing about certain crowd elements getting involved. It also makes me laugh that some Port supporters I know never had an issue with Pickets bumps directly to a players head but have an issue with this, WTF?? Get a grip people and get things into perspective.

I thought it would have been fair enough if he was shepherding for a team mate, in that case there shouldn't have even been a free kick.

But the difference is the ball was being contested in a ball up, no team had even possession of the ball!

It was fair. That Swampie went down like a bag of spuds. Made it look worse than it was.

Half the reason he went down the way hhe did was because he was already half groggy from an earlier hit from a team-mate. Shouldn't have even been on.

What if any should be the punishment for those feral supporters who charged from the hill to the fence to get involved in the scuffle between the players.
Surely they should be identified and banned from attending matches for a set period of time. The SANFL needs to send a message that that sort of behaviour is not acceptble.
We all love the rough stuff in SA footy but thats for the players not us punters.
