The second match at Thebarton Oval this year was a triumphant return for the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club.
It was a dashing start for the Eagles as they kicked the first three goals of the game before North Adelaide even registered a score. These three goals in the first eight minutes came from Tim Inkster, Luke Powell and key forward Mark Passador.
North Adelaide then regrouped and kicked three themselves, while Matt Cooper slotted through the team’s fourth for the term to leave the margin at eight points at the first break.
Seven straight goals in the second term set up the Eagles 26-point half time lead and had the group in complete control of the fixture.
After two early goals to the Roosters punctured by a goal to Peter Fiacchi, the Eagles kicked six of the next seven to take a strangle hold on the match. Passador added two in quick succession, followed by Adam Grocke popping one through from the five-metre line before a pair from opportunist forward David Westbrook and a second to Matt Cooper.
Justin Cicolella had 18 possessions in the first half alone, while Cooper was industrious up forward with 13 touches.
With seven more goals in the premiership quarter the lead jumped out to nearly ten goals at lemons. Cicolella started the procession with his first goal after just 90 seconds of play in the third term. Goals to Luke Jarrad, Leigh Treeby and a fourth to Passador sealed the game as a contest with three successive goals in as many minutes from the nine-minute mark. This was followed by Bernie Vince’s first, Passador’s fifth and a second for Tim Inkster.
Jason Earl started the last term with two of his own to get into the act as the margin kept blowing out. This win, the Eagles most comprehensive of the year so far will put the side in a good frame of mind as they start the second round.
Paul Lindsay dominated the ruck with 31 hit outs, whilst on-ballers Justin Cicolella, Hayden Skipworth and Matt Cooper were high possession winners. The entire defence were unheralded but equally commendable and Mark Passador was again a great target up forward.
With Glenelg’s loss the Eagles have now been elevated to third position on the premiership table.
