He did have a choice - stay at Sturt.

Yes, that's his first option to choose. He didn't have an option to choose the club he went to having chosen to leave.

This is a move that I feel Mitch will regret in time. He was selected to play in the league side last Tuesday but chose to 'spit the dummy' and ask for a transfer. It surprises me that a player so young feels he should be a walk up starter for the league team. By all reports Port were happy with Sturt's handling of him, albeit concerned that he hadn't cracked a senior spot sooner.

One week later he finds himself down at South. With due respect to South, he will be playing in an inferior list that struggles to be competitive....how is that going to help his progression? He'll play league footy every week, probably be amongst the best too, but at what benefit? The strong mail suggests he wanted a move to North Adelaide, so good on the club for calling his bluff and following the correct procedures.

If playing in losing sides in front of 1200 fans floats his boat, then good luck to him. I want players at my club who are prepared to stick at it, play good footy in a successful reserves side and take their opportunity when it's given to them.

Which is a shame because he had plenty of talent but just was not prepared to put in the hard yards so good riddance should fit in well with South then

If the mail is he wanted to go to North then why would South take him when our policy from the FOC is "if you dont want to be here we dont want you" i.e Archard, Mcglone, Clarke, Hall etc....

I guess he could prove me wrong and only time will tell on this....

Agree Southee, when trying to turn around your culture, why would you take someone who is coming with some problems or baggage?

A very 1970s concept, but this is the 21st century, the AFL, and no kid wants to be sitting in the reserves for 2 years, they want to be noticed.

As far as him going to South, it's great for the competition. Lower sides need good players as well, not just the top teams.

Looks like he'll probably line up in the league team this week.

Will be interesting to see how he goes. Hopefully in it for the long haul.....

I thought South were making a big deal about local development and not relying on self-interested blow-ins like Farmer? I think they'd be crazy not to take him but doesn't it kind of fly in the face of that policy? Anyway, rug up Mitch

how many of these players actually end up making it in the afl ? i'd suggest if it isn't one it'd be close to it....to me it is a lack of effort in most cases
