Don't be at all suprised if you see a former Premiership player for Central District back in the red, white and blue this weekend, more than likely in the reserves, for now.

Charles Slattery, a member of the Dogs side that defeated North in the 2007 Grand Final, left the club at the start of the season to persue his career as a lawyer in Melbourne as was playing in the VFL for the Bendigo Bombers. Despite Bendigo struggling in that competition this season, Charles has been playing well over there and has been named amongst their better players on a regular basis so far this season, so he comes back to Adelaide in some pretty good form and will be a nice little bonus for the reigning premiers, particularly with their current injury toll.

Unfortunately for Charles, he was made redundant in Melbourne and so he has now returned home to Adelaide to take up his former position at law firm Griffin & Hilditch (I think). Of course, Charles is an Adelaide boy, originally starting his SANFL career at West Adelaide before switching to Centrals at the end of 2006 and playing in that premiership side for the Dogs in 2007. He struggled at times with injury and form in 2008 playing for the Dogs, before chosing to relocate to Victoria, where brother Henry is on Essendon's AFL list.

I believe 'Slatts' was at Doggies training last night and is keen to slip straight back into the SANFL action once again. Of course, he will have to start in the reserves and will need to work his way into the Dogs injury riddled league side, but good luck to him in his SANFL comeback if in fact it is true. Charles will not be able to wear the number 10 gurnsey that he donned before leaving for Melbourne as former Port Magpie Kyle Jenner has taken that jumper on this season, but like I say, all the best and welcolme back to the SANFL Charles.

He couldn't have come at a better time for us either. Is there any reason why he can't slip straight into the league side? Especially if he's been tearing it up for Bendigo in the VFL. He's a very handy addition indeed.

Like I said Dutchy, I "think" he was offered his old job back at Griffin & Hilditch, but know he did work there prior to leaving for Victoria whilst playing for the Dogs.

Serious Question, given that he couldn't make Centrals GF side last year is he a certainty for selection this year??

Yes I know he had troubles coming back from his knee injury suffered at the Bay in May just curious of Dogs fans opinions that all.

Irrespective of all that a quality player and will add further depth to the best squad in the competition.

I think the main problem last season was the travelling back and forth from Melbourne to Adelaide and not being able to train with the guys on a regular basis.

With him permantely back in Adelaide i would expect his form would be closer to what he was producing in 2007 than last year.

where is that doggies fan that was on here when we got Chris Hall complaining about how could we fit him in the salary cap after the season had started when we finished second last year?

Bit of a different story here, though LBJ. I'm not going to make comment about Glenelg and the cap with regard for Hall, because I don't know enough (just like most people who comment about it to be honest actually). In Hall's case there was little of the season started, he was going to a new club and was the subject of something of a bidding war. Slattery is returning to an old club, a club he won a flag with, half way through the season. He'd be little worth to any other side at the moment and you would imagine is just keen for a game and to keep his footy going.

With regards to his inability to find a spot in the best 21, that was pretty much all down to injury. He just didn't have the time left in the season to get back into form to force his way back in. But given injuries to guys like Goodrem and Cochrane for long periods of time thus far, a fit and firing small would be gold.

And with regards to him coming straight back, he must earn his spot to an extent. If he was replacing an injury then that might be different but he should be made to work for a spot, even if it's one average ressies game. He simply isn't of the standing (IMHO) to come straight in at any time..

It never ceases to amaze me how much room certain clubs can find in their salary caps. It's like the magic pudding, the more you use, the more there remains to use.

Well, well, a comment on the Salary Cap from a Norwood supporter whose club who has been caught for a breach last year and is under heavy scrutiny again! Now what's that saying about a pot, a kettle and the colour black..........?

Good to see Slatts move on with his life... He was certainly part of a restructure where he worked...

I know he was playing for the said law firm in a Bolton v Stone Law firm cricket team competition in Melbourne and decided not to play a game... problem was he didn't tell anyone before the game and they had to play with 10...

I personally think the embarrassment of being bowled by a 50yr old lady the 1st game got to him
