...same as Glenelg lost that match to Centrals in 2002 (when 6.5 to 0.0 at qtr time).

Norwood kicked more goals and points in the last 3 quarters

I think the fact they failed to score in the last had a bit to do with it...

Still, as hard as that loss must be for Panther supporters, they should take heart from going down by only one point... Many would have thought Norwood would have been a class above South...

What's going on with this crazy SANFL competition of ours??? Glad I'm not tipping this year!

I bet the Norwood coaching staff have them doing some goalkicking practice during the week.

NW 14-12 V EG last week I reckon and ended up 15-19

Including todays result thats 12-26 the last 38 scores

SA 6-3......13-6
NW 0-0......11-19

39 points down and win is a good effort

very similar to a game earlier this year

WA 1-3....12-12
NW.7-3....11-15

Btw for those doing the buns for crowds comp thing...

"Crowd...no idea, depends how many were in each car"

That really was what RPH said...they had no idea what the figure was so I'm afraid you'll need to find it elsewhere...sorry.

Scores:
South - Rolfe 4.0, Schmidt 3.1, Warren 3.0, Cockshell 1.1, McKenna 1.0, Redigolo 1.0, Torney 0.1, Rushed 0.3.
Norwood - Terlich 4.1, Phillips 3.1, Donohue 2.0, Vlatko 1.4, Gallagher 1.1, Rowe 0.4, Massie 0.2, Puopolo 0.1, Jericho 0.1, Tyrrell 0.1, Campbell 0.1, Rushed 0.2.

Shattering loss but felt that Norwood deserved to win that. We had 5.3 to 0.0 on the board after 14 mins and were 6.4 to 0.0 after 20 mins and dominating everywhere. Kicked 7.2 to 11.19 after that - the Legs were workman-like in their fightback. Gallagher was outstanding. Massie and Weatherald were very good too. Seemed like Rowe was kicking Norwood out of the match with four third-quarter behinds but Terlich stepped up in the final quarter with two goals, including the winner with 1:40 remaining, after missing a very-gettable one minutes earlier.

Thought Rolfe was South's best with 20+ touches and four goals. Warren kicked three goals but was mostly unsighted. Boyd and Cook were good in the midfield too.

Interesting that South received a free kick from a ball-up on defensive 50 with 40 seconds to go. Torney received the free kick and, as I'm sure everyone in the ground was gobsmacked, he held onto it for about 10-15 seconds then kicked backwards. When the siren sounded he pumped his fists in the air in elation and looked for team-mates, but he noticed none reciprocated, turned and looked at the scoreboard and then collapsed. Very interesting turn of events.

South probably had one inside 50 for the entire last quarter, if that. Norwood probably had about 25. The ball spent 70% of the last quarter in Norwood's half-forward line and pockets. Panthers held possession very well for most of the last quarter but their intent from the first minute was to defend and in no way attack, which imo definitely cost them the match. It was only a matter of time before the Legs got in front.

Crowd 1300-1500 maybe. There was very few in the stand and equally as few around the ground. However, the ground was packed in cars and it was very cold so perhaps the majority were in their cars. Maybe 1800 if that's the case.

Youd think the Captain would at least have some idea about the game situation at the time.

Just on the unusual scores, was there a big breeze going to one end? Or was it just a coincidence that Norwood barely scored in the 1st and South didnt in the last?

Probably a five-goal breeze to the south in the first quarter but it slowly tailed off to a cross-ground wind. However, the south end was always the scoring end - 16.18 to 8.7, and take out Norwood's third quarter in which they did fantastic against the breeze (4.6 to 4.2), it was 12.16 to 4.1.

Deserving winner imo (and it's hard to say because it's so shattering). Norwood's third-quarter effort was so commendable against the breeze. They dominated the second quarter and while South smashed them in possessions in the last quarter, it was defensive tactics. So I reckon other than the first 20 mins of the game, Norwood had the advantage. And to the Legs' credit, they did well to hault South at 6.4 after 20 mins because their momentum was unbelievable. Goal....centre bounce....clearance....long kick....goal. At least three or four times.

I wasn't at the game, but from what I could make out from the RPH call it sounded as though South were trying to ice the clock right from the get-go in the last quarter, is that correct?

If so (and I know hindsight's a beautiful thing) was it the best tactic? I know it was difficult to score at the other end, however it wasn't impossible and I wouldn't have thought the 3/4 time lead coming home into a gale, was enough to sit on?
(although granted, they very nearly did)

We milked the clock for a sensationally long time (like 20 mins). Eventually it became too much.

Can't for the life of me work out why they went "defensive"....cost them the game IMO :(

Cheers mate, and sorry to have brought it up ... I've seen us throw away many games over the years by playing in a similar manner and I loathe it - Most fans would much prefer to see their time try and win running away and if they just fail you at least know they gave themselves every chance to actually win the game.

Chin up South lads, I really think your home grown policy will bear fruit and make the pain on the way through eventually worthwhile.
