I was involved with Sturt this year and the 4 boys were our standouts during the year. Best of luck to all the boys for the carnival.

Congrats to all the boys especially the 6 from the Eagles. Will be interested to see how Jarrod Harding goes should he get an opportunity, had a very impressive performance in the last game the under 16's played against Sturt at Woodville Oval.

The bays made the final of this comp?

Yet they only have 2 players in the state side that is surprising.

In the u18 state side there's 6 or 7 Eagles and we've won 3 and lost 6 so figure that one out.

Perhaps it is a case of the old chest nut in that they are a champion team and not a team of champions !!??

True but i think that has less relevance at the u/16 level.

Yeah, you are probably right there mate...

The other thing that may be a factor, but I may be wrong, is that Glenelg have about half a dozen of their better players that are in the college system and availability for that is more important than SANFL representation.

Played football against both of them last year in U15's, both very good players, easily top 5 players from last years season.
Both fairly tall(both over 185cm) and very skilled players with good footy brains.
I think they are both playing U18's aswell.

Good luck to all the boys selected. Who actually does pick the teams ? Is it also a school run team ? I saw 2 trials whilst waiting for other games and there are some lads that did well there that didn't make it and some that played poorly who did. Obviously school footy has a fair say. It seems to me as an outsider the process is an interesting one. To the lads that did'nt make it keep on going as the best players are not always picked and remember that the cream will always rise to the top. There are 4 or 5 of you who should feel hard done by. The best thing is to keep working hard and it eventually works out. To the boys selected don't let those that did'nt or the state down. You have a big responsability.

Hey Kookas I'm glad you don't coach at our club. I saw 4 of your games your team played this year and I find your quote above about standouts quite funny and an insult to your captain and your number 9, not to mention the twins. In the 3 games you won the captain and co were clearly your best and the last game where we thumped you shearwood and tripodi were clearly best as well. All these kids are more than welcome down our way and would propsper in a good program. I've played league footy and watched junior footy for 30 years and for the life of me can't understand why people like you make dumb comments on public forums. That kind of explains from what I hear why you may lose a bucket load of kids next year to better run programs. We wait with open arms.

shakes head at the above post

Kookas comes on here and is positive about the boys from his team that is in the squad. As he should even if he doesn't agree 100% with the selections and yes it does wreak of being over supportive. As one of those four kids I would expect my coach to come out and support me rather than come out and rant that other kids should be in the squad.

If Kookas thinks others should be in the squad the right forum to bring that up is directly with the SANFL selectors rather than here.

I am also dissapointed that as a high profile member (based purely on the fact you played SANFL football) of the sturt zone in what appears to be a lack of support for the Sturt football club. Country kids struggle to get involved with SANFL clubs and I would encourage you to encourage any dissapointed kids to toughen up and come back and prove that they are better than they feel they are perceived to be.

Also dissapointed that you have come out swinging rather than PMing Kookas with your concerns about Sturts system and what would be greater is if you gave him constructive opinions that may actually make the Sturt system better.

I saw Grigg play on the weekend, based on that one game I would expect him to be a major part of the South Australia team.

Whatever - I agree Grigg should play a major part.

I also agree with supercoach - anyone (kooka) with an official role at any club should not make comment in the public forum. You miss supercoaches point. It was I think quite simply that those 4 boys were not stand outs and that sturt were a very even group and the statement was unfair to ther other lads. - There is no mention of state selection or whatever - I have no involvement at the club and I looked back thru the SANFL stats last evening and they tend to support his comments. I think I know who supercoach is and he has no involvement at sturt and just loves watching junior footy and encourages all kids. He definately has the credentials to comment and I know a northern suburbs club seek him out for opinions from time to time. Maybe sturt should.
