The AFL is a competition that Carey never played in. Call it an Australian Rules Hall of Fame (of which he should undoubtedly be a member) and give competitions like the WAFL and SANFL the respect they deserve, not turn them into some sub-category of the AFL brand.

His status as a legend is absolute, and completely independent of the opinions of those victorians who decide who does or does not make it into their boys' club Hall Of Fame.
Inclusion of the Great Man in the hall of fame does more to validate the hall of fame itself than it does to cement Super's status as legend, for any hall of fame without Peter Carey could only be viewed as a ludicrous joke. That it took this long for the victorians to recognise the man, while other lesser victorian players got the nod, is an indictment on the hall of fame concept.
So, while I'm glad to see Super get the recognition which he has always deserved - sincere congratulations to thee big fella - my excitement at this announcement will extend no further than those good wishes. The AFL hall of fame still has no credence and not even opening the doors to Peter Carey will change that.
