If Port Adelaide Power Folded? or Re-Located?

Would it be good for the SANFL competition? Would more people follow the SANFL? Would the SANFL get more coverage?

There would be alot of good things to come out of it if they DID fold or re-locate, but we all know it won't happen.

I am just interested to hear all your thoughts on the matter...... would Port Adelaide Magpies become a force again?

Apologies if this is a stupid thread, i have no idea on the SANFL.

Crowd figures show that in 1997 the SANFL attendances dropped a bit, but not as much as the 1991 drop. I'd have thought attendances would pick up more if the above scenario carried out.

It'd be good for the SANFL if they folded or relocated.

What would be even better is if the whole AFL folded.
SANFL crowds would be up then. :D

Yeah, all gone pear shaped. A Premiership, a Grand Final, two prelim finals in 12 years to date. Yes, this is one 'experiment' that has gone wrong. Unlike Fremantle who are clearly on the right track.

Fremantle make money and have 40,000 members despite their lack of sucess. Imagine if they had won a GF. They'd have enough money to buy you out of debt

Devonport Power.

I love hypotheticals, however unlikely they are.

If Port Power folded or relocated, the AFL would insist on a new second team in SA anyway. Time to elevate Port Magpies into the AFL ;)

Exactly, imagine if they did have win a GF.... it ain't going to happen.

Firstly, you play footy to win Grand Finals and then what ever happens after that doesn't matter.

SANFL would lose about 25% of its revenue and as such SANFL clubs would lose about 60% of their annual distribution.

Become a one team town - oh boy that was boring

You won't win GF's with a club that can't pay its bills either.

Hope not.

Then I'd have to barrack for the Swans.

Not all bad, I guess.

I already know the club song.

Cheer, cheer...

Imagine if we had beat Collingwood in the '03 Prelim, Imagine if we had kicked another 20 goals against Geelong in '07.....imagine this imagine that. Have you noticed Freo have not won anything...So having money off field is more important than being successful on field? I guess as a Strut fan you've seen a complete lkack of both around at times so you are probably a pretty good judge. For mine, I'll take $3m debt with a Premiership over money in the bank and nothing to show for it.

I was thinking more along the lines of how good the game would have been, yes I know you think it was pretty good anyway.

Nah I agree with you mate.
The only way I could imagine Port kicking another 20 goals would have been if the game had gone on for another 2 or more hours, it would have been great! ;)

Long live the creed!

How quickly they forget. Would have been a one team town had they had their way back in 1990.

Not sure how they would have had a straight face when saying this:
Our only aim to join the AFL was for the betterment of football in South Australia and to ensure our Club’s football future.

That was a flippant comment saying they could buy you out if they had. Twist it whatever way you want to Booney, i'm no Freo fan.
Just pointing out that Freo don't have to talk about re-location, folding, changing their history, handouts, selling their grandmas, all this crap you guys have to consider because you can't pull a crowd.
You can assume they'll never win a flag, I assume they will, one day

Certainly a premiership is what we all want to see our club involved in, however a football club (at the elite level especially) is a business. It must remain profitable.

I can understand your wanting to take a 3 million dollar debt over not having a premiership, but having your name on the honour board means jack if you don't have a club to follow any more.

Port Power cannot continue to run at a loss. The AFL wont prop them up and why should the SANFL?
