RD 6 Norwood v Central preview

As unlikely as it seems, Norwood could easily come out and topple Central.
They nearly did last year with arguably lesser names available.
They’re a real Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde outfit and coaching issues aside, are more than capable
of being the worst or best team in the league at any moment. This was fully evidenced last
year against Glenelg and Central.

Even with what I considered to be a doubtful line up, our 1st quarter against West was
champagne footy, thanks to some creative player placements and fast, direct, up the guts
ball movement. If the pedal stays firmly upon the metal for 4 quarters this week, who knows ?

A successful crack at CDFC will unfortunately depend upon :
1) A backs against the wall mentality with ‘Fortis In Procella’ to the fore.
2) AFL selections.
3) Not playing those carrying some form of injury, or having returned too soon.
4) Dropping recent habitual non performers.
&
5) Rewarding the few quality reserves / recruits who are performing.
This last point may well help motivate a grossly underperforming reserves team that continually
fails to see promotion for individual efforts.

On a lighter note, I’m surprised Trevor Hill’s detractors haven’t taken to calling him
Forrest Gump. “Coz No’wood is sho’nuff lark a barx a choclitts.”
“Ya jus’ never know watcha gonna git.”

And South.

Not too many examples of four quarter efforts in recent memory. Even a 14 goal win against South at Encounter Bay saw an even first quarter.

Other than Will Young and Kitey, there aren't many "available" to be taken. I'd be surprised if Rodan, Thomas or Lower were dropped by the Pahrr.

I admire your positivity SABRE. The Centrals write up for this preview could be 5 lines or extend to 5 pages or more discussing why they couldn't lose. After all, we haven't beaten them since we won by 2 points in the first meeting in 2006. They've won the past 6 games against us.

How about we just say that Norwood will go in as the underdogs? (minnows? plankton?). ;)

Thought it was your AFL rejects that were going to carry you to a flag this year, now you're relying on your AFL listed players.
You Norwood people are funny. Cheers for brightening up an otherwise dull night =))

Always happy to supply a giggle 'Voice' but I don't believe I've said that anywhere.
Still, can't deny Lower would have been useful on Sunday. Especially during that last quarter.
;)
P.S. Congrats Westies for solid perserverance.

Unlike you Sturt folk to be this happy after a loss .. Normally you haven't stopped complaining about the umpiring by this stage.

You forgot :
6) Centrals dont play to THEIR best. IMHO i think that if centrals play to their best there is no way norwood will get to within 6 goals of the dogs.

Lord help us in this game.

Would like to see the odds for this game. Central $1.01, with a 168 point spread.

Think you're being kind with the 6 goal limit their unfortunately mate ... We were playing half decent footy last year and you outscored us by 6 goals in 20 minutes .. Imagine you'd played like that all the way through  :?

You might need to re-arrange those words a little and add the words "on his" ;)

Notice I didn't write anything until monday arvo. I was hunting down umps since late Saturday til then  .
Seriously though, i'm definately not one of those ump whingers, if your team is good enough then you'll win regardless of what the umps do.
Mind you I was only born in 77 so to young to remember 78 ;)

What a day it was. The invincible unbeatable Blues (well they thought so anyway) took on a Norwood side celebrating it's centennary year and who finished a mere six games behind them on the ladder at the end of the minor round.

The game kicked off and Strut reigned supreme. Come Lemon time they had a five goal break. The Legs were done for. The only thing is that nobody told the players that. They kept perservering and managed to sneak ahead due to the poor kicking of the Strutties who kicked 26 points on the day and due to a controversial call from umpire Des Foster. Sticking true to form the Strutties have choosen to focus on the umpiring call rather than the poor kicking of the team ever since.

Jack Oatey went into a rage, Wynney went into the coaches box and the Redlegs went into the history books with a flag in the seniors and the reserves in our 100th season. Sturt might be able to beat Port and Glenelg and heck even the Dogs in Grand Finals but a Grand Final win over the Redlegs has so far eluded them (surprisingly there have only been two Norwood v Sturt grannies, the other was in 1941). *cue spellcheck if I've got that wrong*

Hey don't thank me man, all part of the service.

I don't think this game will be the blow out everyone is expecting. Ian Callinan will not play so i would bring in David Allocca for him.
I can't see Giles being picked by the power as i can't see them dropping Brogan or Lade. Symes may be picked by the crows so in that case i would recall Adam Switala. Matt Westoff is in good form but not sure if he is ready for AFL football yet, but either was Justin when he was picked.

Norwood's best is good so if Central come to the parade with a complacent attitude they could be in for a real shock. Hopefully Roy has them switched on and raring to go.

For me Dogs by 23pts.

Back on track...

I think the Dogs need to be careful with this one, they know the Legs have given them a run for their money in the games at Coopers in years gone by. Of course, the great come from behind win last year and the infamous loss where the final siren wasn't heard.

For me, if Centrals come swithced on, they should win by 6 or 7 goals but I think Norwood will be keen to atone for the dissapointing loss against West last week and make it a tighter contest. My head says Dogs by 3 goals, my heart says Dogs by plenty.

Centrals in a tight one is my final choice !!

This should never be accaptable, but deep down I think most Norwood supporters would accept a respectable loss ... I really can't see any way that my boys could win this game as it would take the Dogs being off the boil for 4 quarters (as 1 good quarter from them has been enough to beat us in the past).

From A Norwood perspective I think we need to go back to the basics - Concentrate on getting the processes right, and then hopefully it keeps us in the contest ... We really need to stop looking at just the immediate game in front of us in terms of W/L - The best thing for the club is to find some sort of form that can then be built upon.

Hopefully a couple of AFL additions might help us in the pivot and stoppages, as our over reliance on Lower, Thomas, Campbell and Trotter has hurt us in their absence.

But central have far too much class and form, and the only question really is by how much they'll get the job done by, I'd say Dogs somewhere between 24-90 points.
