I heard on the radio on the way home North were 7 goals to 1 goal at half time? Ended up winning without kicking a goal in the 2nd half? Spelly will have a field day with this! ;)

It's one of these days you wished this was the tv game.

Sturt lacked intensity in the first half, North lacked intensity in the second half. Probably the correct result, but if I were a Roosters supporter I wouldn't take a lot out of the win...

The loss of Coad before the game and McLeay in the second half hurt us but I was impressed by the efforts of Fittock & McGlone in defence. (how the hell does Thurstans play AFL???)

Looking forward to next week and the opportunity to whip the swampies!

Took a lot out of the win, losing Archard before the game was a huge loss and then to have the likes of Ackland, Ryswyk, White all with injuries well before half time says alot for the character of the side. In the end, it was a great tussle and either side could have won. Game was wrecked by the worst umpiring display I have seen in many many years. Supporters on both sides could have alot to whinge about in regards to that. In the end our first win at Unley since 04 and with 5 or 6 of our regular players out injured etc great win

I'm not sure who I think deserved to win this game. In the first half, I thought Sturt lacked intensity just as my learned friend above said, while at the same time I didn't think North were overly impressive, they simply worked that little bit harder and played competent football, they scored some excellent tight angle set shot goals and just capitalised on Sturt's poor performance.

At that stage it was looking like North by how much...

However in the second half, Sturt decided to REALLY play football, whereas North seemed to get progressively worse as the game went on, hence why Sturt almost overran the Roosters. There were some pretty ordinary umpiring decisions it must be said, I really thought some crucial decisions went against Sturt, however that said, that can't be blamed for the loss.

It was the poor effort in the first half that cost them. At the same time though, North's second half was poor enough such that they deserved to lose. So for me, a draw would of been an appropriate result.

I'm having trouble seeing how that was a great win (despite players out etc.) The Roosters went to water in the second half...

Like I said, probably the correct result, but not a good win given you only kicked 1 goal in the second half (and coming home with a 5 goal breeze)...

Worth travelling 9000kms for and getting Qantas to stick me on an earlier flight.
North and Sturt supporters both agreed after the game that the umpires ruined a great game of footy.
Really good spirits between fans of both sides today, diehards of both were there.
Not that I was in a mood to argue not having slept since Thursday night! ;)

Pretty happy with North, Centrals fans told us after round 2 we had nothing to look forward to and yet the 7th side of last year has beatn the 3rd, 4th and 5th side of last year, 2 at their own ground.
Gutsy win today for the boys, they always had something in reserve for that game and to beat the side I regarded as potentially the best going around last year from the 7th side it was a FANTASTIC win.

Mind you, what a shock that weather was coming from Phuket to Unley!! Ive just enjoyed the best long hot shower! :D

Well summed-up. Can't recall a time when supporters were agreeing with each other so much about the ridiculous umpiring decisions (many of which left both supporters and players totally confused). Decent crowd there considering the bad weather from the past couple of days, only ended up getting a few drops of rain during the league game. North need to scull some coffee or something at half time, their third quarters have been rubbish this year (today especially). Maybe a bit of goal-kicking practice for a few players would be handy too. Sturt showed absolutely nothing in the 1st half, but showed in the 2nd half that if their opposition stop running hard and pressuring them they have the ability to get on top, which almost happened today. North have won 3 games against finalists from last year and only lost to the premiers. Especially after last season that's a pretty good start.

It appears a lot of times that North players get injured early in matches to reduce the bench to 1 or zero for at least half the match. Is this bad luck, or players desperation, or perhaps the hammies weren't warmed up?

Probably a carry over from our previous fitness regime IMHO that will only improve as time goes on.

D.White was probably best on ground for the first half today, big loss when he went off.

I could be wrong but I don't think Archard played today and he's probably been our best this year.

For a young newly gelling side to dominate for a half then fall down a bit but still get over the line is an awesome sign IMHO especially considering the sides we're beating and where they were last year, North will only improve, they're tackling better at times than Ive ever seen a North side tackle.
If we can dominate a Sturt side on their own ground for a half then when we get more used to our game plan down the track we're more likely to do that for closer to the entire game and get easy wins.
All looks very good down at Rooster land especially with the way some youngsters are going about their job.
Ackland makes a HUGE difference to our side, absolutely awesome player and a class act.
Alleway and Allan sensational today but big different on last year is the great performances by some youngsters and blokes like Toby Stribling who continue to impress. The goal Phil Davis set up on his own against the breeze was one of the most magnificent things Ive seen for a long time, especially funny when the Sturt fans laughed at his kick which set up what in the end was a winning goal!
:D

I reckon the Bays reserves won at Prospect despite not goaling in the second half, sometime within the last few years.

Ok, but not great game of footy. Given the conditions, the game itself was pretty good. Sturt completely overused the ball in the first half and turned it over by hand and foot far too regularly. I think we had about 75% of the ball in the first half and North scored most of their goals from turnovers.

Damon White getting injured in the second was a turning point. I was in front of the interchange gates and he looked very groggy. When he came back on though, he dominated up forward. Losing McLeay didn't help our cause at all.

When White didn't reappear after half time, I was pretty pleased. The second half was complete reverse of the first half. I thought we controlled the on ball area and clearances however we weren't able to deliver to our forwards as well as North were in the first half.

The umpiring was deplorable - and it didn't make a scerick of a difference to the end result. The one thing I did like in comparison the AFL was that they weren't looking for free kicks. The benefit of the doubt was given to the player seeking the ball. One instance that infuriated me, was when Dey pinged McGlone for deliberate right in front of us. That was just sheer stupidity.
