Round 4 - Centrals v Panthers @ Hamra Homes Oval

Postby Big Phil » Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:12 pm

So after a week off with the bye following a good win against North, Centrals now face the seethingPanthers, aka South Adelaide, at Hamra Homes Oval Elizabeth this coming weekend.

After getting their pants pulled down by Norwood down in Encounter Bay, Clay Sampson will have his side fired up to atone for their poor performance the week before. The Dogs will be fresh from having the bye and on paper will surely be the stronger team and should win comfortably.

Brad Symes played okay for the Crows today yesterday so I would say he will be out of the side. That being the case, I would bring in young Ashley Duncan for his league debut and other blokes like Luke Habel and David Allocca would be pressing for league selection and of course Adam Switala will not want to play what is likely to be his last year, playing in the 2's.

My suggested team would be:

Full Forward: Chad O'Sullivan Daniel Havelberg Ian Callinan
Half Forward: Eddie Sansbury Matthew Westhoff Kyle Jenner
Centre Line: Brayden O'Hara James Gowans Lee Spurr
Half Back: Luke Barmby Justin Hardy Ryan Williams
Full Back: Ash Duncan Yves Sibenaler Paul Thomas

Rucks: Jonathon Griffin Matthew Slade Scott Dutschke,

Interchange: David Allocca, Jason Mackenzie, Chris Gowans

IN: Ash Duncan, David Allocca
OUT: Brad Symes (Crows) Heath Lawry (ommitted)

Sadly I think its fairly obvious that Central will smack the living suitcase out of the Panthers, and perhaps to add some insult to the injury I do think that Clay Sampson might get a lesson in the coaching box from Roy Laird, the club made the call to put an inexperienced coach to lead the team after the issues with Jack Cahill who was supposed to have been his mentor and I think the club will pay dearly for it this weekend. Considering our own Board Member Brenton Honour believes the club to finish eight this season, no doubt its fait accompai anyway!.....

Wont be able to make it for this one.......thankfully.On last weeks showing it should be one way traffic, unless the young panthers, (average age of last weeks side was less than 20) can show some spirit and avenge for their dismal effort against the cash cows.

Rohipnol or valium should be the choice here WCP.

Having said all that, throw in Cockshell, Thewlis, Elliot and Bradley we start to look better, still not enough to reverse the loss on Saturday but an improved team. l posted at the beginning of the year Norwood will romp in the Premiership and from what i saw iám even more sure of it.
Interesting that a leggies official whispered to me that the club knows it's well over the cap but given the 2 new AFL licenses coming in which will greatly impact on the future and significance of the SANFL Norwood want 1 more premiership now while it matters before it all goes pear shape so the penalty will be of little concern in the long run.

I don't think it will be a massive blowout in recent years Centrals haven't generally smashed teams expect for Port at Alberton last year. Wheras in the early 2000's they were winning alot of games by more than 10 goals.

There's one for Spelly how many games did Central win by more than 10 goals in 2007 & 2008.

For me the ins will be
INS
A.Switala
A.Duncan

OUTS
B.Symes
L.Barmby

I think the team plays a better structure and looks more damaging when Lawry is playing, even if he is slightly out of form.

Round 2 1999 (the year just about everyone beat Centrals at Elizabeth.

If Centrals give South enough respect, then they will win by 20 goals. If they muck around, as they tend to do with lower rung sides (remember the Eagles/North debacles last year), then they'll win by 20 points.

More than 10 year ago then? That's some sort of record at home, even against a mediocre side.

Surely people haven't forgotten what we did to Norwood at HHO in 2007. That was a decent margin.......

It might be a pipe dream, but I'd really like to kick 50 goals this week. There's one record I'd be happy to lose.

I really hope we can put in a better display than saturdays turd effort!
I expect us to be much better than last weekend, and one point is our ressies are playing very well at the moment and there are a few blokes pressing for league selection.
As I have said before, the team must be selected on performance and effort and there is at least one more senior player bound for the reserves.
Tim Boyd(brother of James) is playing well in the reserves, he must be a chance of promotion as we really are struggling in the middle.
Recruit Nathan Lyons must also be up for league selection after a couple of solid games in the ressies. These two blokes along with Nick Murphy and Nick Fergusson must get a chance in the league team,as our midfield and forward line are struggling big time!
I hope Clay is willing to show the players a video of our win against the bays at glenelg oval last year.We were belted by sturt the previous weekend and were given no chance, but we responded by playing tough hard accountable football. The team we have out on the park is basically the same at the moment so if they play the same accountable tough footy they will at the very least be competetive!
Yes we have a young side on a steep learning curve but the players have had a tough preseason which should give them the confidence to run out a game.
I am heading out to Elizabeth for the first time in more than twenty years so I hope the boys can serve up something palatable!

South musn't be underestimated in this game, which I'm sure Centrals will not do...

Wasn't it last year some time when the Panthers were pumped one week by Sturt and then the following week came out and touched up Glenelg down at the Bay ?

If Centrals play to the best of their ability, Clay Sampson's mob will be in for a long day and probably another 10 goal hiding but I think the Dogs are just easing into the season again and have a few new faces settling in which will see them get up by about 7 or 8 goals.

Hopefully after the Eagles/North debacles last year, and to a lesser extent the loss to West in the trials, Centrals will learn that you disrespect your opponents at your peril.

Agree Bayman, Benjamin 'Dugga' Warren will only have to kick 2 goals to do that. ;)

Centrals by 138 points if dry, 73 points if wet.
